Last week, Year 12 student Fraser Crotty attended the Queensland History Teachers’ Association Historical Writing Competition awards ceremony at Anglican Grammar School.
Fraser received the Russell Cowie Award for the best Modern History essay across Queensland and the Northern Territory, as well as placing first in the Year 12 category.
His essay examined the contested role of Robert Kennedy in the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, and judges commended the depth of his research and his sophisticated use of historical sources.
In the Year 9 division, Clara Rotolone and Sahana Edwards were also recognised for their outstanding work, placing first and second respectively.
Clara earned first place for her investigation into the Women’s Peace Army and their role in the 1916 conscription debate, while Sahana was awarded second place for her insightful analysis of the changing roles of Australian nurses during World War I.
