Workshop reflections from Advanced Cyanotype Workshop @TGSHS
Dr Renata Buziak
After a successful introductory session in August, I returned to TGSHS to guide a day-long Advanced Cyanotype workshop for community members, supported by the school and the PoPArts Community Partnership Program.
A storm arrived late in the afternoon—luckily most work was complete—and even added a touch of unpredictability that fits beautifully with this organic, nature-connected process.
Working in a small group and a relaxed atmosphere, participants made excellent use of the school’s precious darkroom. This alone was a highlight for many.
Throughout the day, the group explored bleaching, toning, and a range of wet techniques. Everyone left with a collection of prints, new skills, and confidence to keep experimenting at home or with their students.
Feedback was fantastic, with all participants saying they would recommend the workshop. Shared thoughts:
Renata will be running both cyanotype workshops again in 2026
Introductory cyanotype workshop on Saturday 14 March 2026
Advanced cyanotype workshop on Saturday 2 May 2026

Renata has been working with our Year 7 Visual Art Studio Excellence Program
as our artist in residence. Students have experienced and enjoyed learning about darkroom photographic processes of cyanotypes and photograms over the past four weeks.
