Year 3 News

We hope everyone has settled into Term Two well. Please find below information regarding the Curriculum focus this term.

Religion: Sacrament Church Strand

The To Live in Christ Jesus Religious Education Curriculum unit for this term is Triune God. In this inquiry, students explore how Scripture speaks of God in many ways but most significantly for Christians as the Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Triune God). They learn about Jesus as the Son of God, the promised one of the Old Testament whose life, death and resurrection reveals God’s love.

Reading

This term in Reading we will be exploring the novel, ‘Charlotte’s Web’ focusing on analysing characters in a more complex text, making connections and developing comprehension skills. We will also do some vocabulary work to support our reading and understanding of the text and apply to our writing.

Writing

This term we are focusing on Poetry and Information Report writing. The students will be working on key writing skills throughout these genres to deepen their structural understanding and vocabulary knowledge.

They will continue refining their note-taking and research skills to find factual and up to date information on their chosen topics. We will be continuing to incorporate their grammatical understandings into our writing with a strong focus on including compound sentences.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, we are revising our number and place value knowledge and applying this when answering addition and subtraction problems. The students will be learning a number of strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems. These strategies include: jump, split, and bridging to ten. The students will also begin working on worded problems to solve multi-step addition and subtraction questions and applying problem solving skills.

Humanities

This term in Humanities we are learning about Geography with a focus on the features and classification of natural, managed and constructed landmarks in Australia. We will connect this to famous landmarks across Australia and surrounding countries.

Winter Season

During Term Two and Term Three, children are required to wear their winter school uniform to school. A reminder if your child is coming to school in an extra jacket to keep them warm it must be in the school colours.

Home Learning

We ask that your child spends 10-15 minutes a night (where possible) reading aloud to a parent/guardian/older sibling and discuss what they have read. The students will each be provided with a reading diary for them to fill in with the book or chapters they have read. This is to foster their responsibility around their own learning.

Fruit Break

We have a fruit break everyday, please ensure that your child brings fresh fruit or vegetables for this brain break.

Lunch Orders

Until further notice the canteen will be closed. More information will be provided when available.
