This term  we will be exploring Aaron Blabey as part of our author study and are focusing on implied and explicit comprehension strategies to assist us to decode the text.  We are focusing on fluency, expression and decoding skills whilst reading.  It is important as much as possible to read with your child every day.

Writing

As our students develop as writers, it is important for them to be exposed to a variety of texts. To begin the term, we are exploring recounts and narratives. Students will have the opportunity to delve into the world of writing, that is the structure and features of narrative and recount text types, which includes the use of a title, introduction, and making conscious choices about sequencing language including first, then, next, and finally.  As our students develop as writers they are looking to incorporate vivid descriptive language.

Throughout the year, we will consistently be incorporating Colourful Semantics into our writing. This will enable students to develop grammatically correct sentences incorporatine descriptive language, correct punctuation and a range of different connectives, which will enhance their writing.

Handwriting

When handwriting, we will continue to model correct hand grip, paper position, body posture and letter formation. Students write on dotted thirds to foster the appropriate size and position of letters.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, students will explore the concept of addition and subtraction.  Students will read, write, model and solve simple equations using a variety of strategies such as part-part whole, number lines, tens frames and manipulative materials.  We will explore the concept of patterns and simple time measurements such as shorter, longer, hour and minute, morning, afternoon and night.

Home Learning

We ask that your child spends approximately 5-10 minutes a night (where possible) reading aloud to a parent/guardian/older sibling and discuss what they have read. The students should continue with the use of their reading diary recording which books they have read, which will be checked by their teacher every Monday.

Fruit Break

We have a fruit break each morning. Please ensure that your child brings fresh fruit or vegetables for this brain break.

Lunch Orders

The canteen is suspended until a replacement Canteen Manager has been found.

Rubbish

In an attempt to reduce the waste our school produces, we encourage parents/guardians to pack a litter free lunchbox as much as possible.

Uniform

A reminder that children are to wear appropriate uniform — either full Winter or sports uniform on designated sport day. If your child is not in their uniform, please write a note for your teacher to explain the reason. If your child’s hair is longer than their shoulders, please remember to make sure their hair is tied back. Please refer to the School Uniform Policy on the school website.

During Terms Two and Three, students are not required to wear their school hats for all outdoor activities as per our Sun Smart Policy.  Students should still continue to bring a named drink bottle to school each day. Bottles can be refilled as needed during the day.

Communication

Please make sure that concerns or questions regarding student learning are communicated via emailto your students' teacher.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your student's teacher via email. We are here to help.
