Year 5 News

Getting to know you
Year 5 has started with a fantastic sense of energy and excitement across the cohort. During the first fortnight of school, our focus has been on getting to know you—building connections, establishing routines, and creating a positive and supportive learning environment. Students have been engaging in team-building activities, sharing their ideas, and developing a strong sense of belonging within the Year 5 cohort. This settling-in period has laid a great foundation for the learning and growth ahead, and we’re looking forward to a wonderful year together.
School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support - Our Matrix
This fortnight, our Year 5 cohort has been actively engaging with our School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) framework. There has been a strong focus on recognising and reinforcing positive behaviour, with students demonstrating our three core school values of kindness, responsibility, and resilience in their everyday learning and interactions. It has been wonderful to see students making thoughtful choices, supporting one another, and persevering through challenges. These positive behaviours are helping to create a calm, respectful, and inclusive environment where all students can thrive.
Building a class team
This fortnight, the Year 5 cohort has been focusing on building a strong class team. Through activities that promoted belonging, connectedness, and teamwork, students have been learning how to work positively with one another. They participated in maths games that encouraged collaboration while practising good sportsmanship, as well as memorisation games that helped them learn more about each other. These experiences have supported the development of positive relationships and a sense of belonging, strengthening our Year 5 community as we continue the year together.
School Wide Positive Behaviour Support - Where can we play?
This fortnight, the Year 5 cohort has been revisiting our School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) focus of “Where can we play?” Students explored the different areas of the school and discussed expectations for safe, respectful, and responsible play in each space. Through class discussions and activities, students reflected on how making positive choices supports everyone’s enjoyment and safety. This focus helps reinforce our shared understanding of appropriate play spaces and encourages students to take responsibility for their behaviour across the school.
