Foundation

Foundation students have enjoyed their first visits to the STEM room, spending time exploring a range of hands-on construction materials including LEGO, connector straws and building blocks. These play-based learning experiences help establish important classroom routines while allowing the teacher to get to know each learner as they begin their school journey.

Through collaborative building tasks, students are developing early skills in sharing, communicating ideas, problem-solving and creative thinking. It has been wonderful to see students already demonstrating curiosity and excitement as they design and build their own creations. These foundational skills will support students as they move into future STEM challenges throughout the year.

Year 1/2

Year 1 and 2 students have started the year by exploring our school values and what they look like in the STEM learning environment. Together, students unpacked how to Be Kind, Be Responsible, and Be Resilient when working with equipment, collaborating with peers, and tackling new challenges.

Students created “STEM Values Shields” to represent these important behaviours and then put them into action during a team building challenge. It was fantastic to see students encouraging one another, using materials responsibly and persisting when their designs didn’t go to plan.

Establishing these positive learning habits early helps create a safe, supportive and productive STEM space where all students can thrive.

Years 3–6

Students in Years 3–6 have begun the year by unpacking our Acceptable Use expectations and learning what it means to be responsible digital citizens. Together, classes explored how to use technology safely, respectfully and purposefully to support learning.

Students worked collaboratively to design informative posters that illustrate key messages such as protecting personal information, treating others with respect online, caring for devices, and making safe choices when using technology. These student-created resources will be displayed in the STEM room as a reminder of our shared commitment to being safe and responsible users of technology.

Building strong digital citizenship skills ensures students are well equipped to learn, create and explore confidently in an increasingly digital world.
