Year 2 News

Getting to know you

Year 2 has begun with lots of excitement as students settle into their new classroom and routines. The students have been getting to know their teacher and classmates, making new friends, and learning how to work together kindly and safely. Through group activities and daily routines, students are building confidence and a strong sense of belonging. This has helped create a caring classroom and a positive start to the Year 2 learning journey.

School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support - Our Matrix

During the first week of school, the Year 2 cohort has been engaged in our T.E.A.M Program. This builds expectations and school routines to help create a safe and positive learning environment. Students explored safety lines, morning and afternoon procedures, and the correct way to line up, including expectations for behaviour both inside and outside the classroom. They discussed how to move safely around the school. Students were also reminded of our school values Kindness, Responsibility and Resilience, and what these look like in everyday actions. Students learned about major and minor behaviours, the consequences linked to these choices, and how the STEPS Board supports students in making positive decisions. It has been a great start to the year, with students showing enthusiasm and growing confidence in following school expectations.

Building a class team

The Year 2 students have been focusing on building a positive team environment by getting to know each other, playing games and participating in collaborative activities. The students demonstrated the school values of responsibility, kindness and resilience in their daily interactions. Building a strong class team early on in the year will help establish positive routines and expectations that students can rely on throughout the rest of the year.

School Wide Positive Behaviour Support - Where can we play?

The Year 2 students have been revisiting the playground and thinking about how they can display the school value of responsibility when they are outside. The students looked at a map of the school and discussed the out of bounds areas, an area they should not enter during recess or lunch. The children showed great understanding of where to play and where to avoid. Additionally, they explained why they have to follow those rules in order to stay safe and what to do if they see someone in the out of bounds areas.

Water bottles: Please ensure your child brings a water bottle to school each day to help minimise disruptions to learning time.

Home Reading: Home Reading will begin on Monday 9th, February. All students will be provided with a school diary to record reading completed at home.
