Performing Arts

Foundation
This week in Performing Arts, foundation students were introduced to the three disciplines of drama, music and dance and explored how each one helps us express ideas using our bodies, voices and imagination. Together, we co-created classroom expectations linked to our school values of Kindness, Responsibility and Resilience, discussing how to care for instruments, respect performers and keep trying when learning feels challenging. Students practised collaboration and creativity through the drama game Cow, Frog, Bird, using their bodies and voices to act like animals while cheering on their peers. Through movement, play and discussion, students built confidence and a shared understanding of how to learn safely and respectfully in Performing Arts.
Year 1-2
In Performing Arts this week, Year 1-2 students warmed up with a fun movement activity while learning how to find their safe dance space using a “body bubble.” We revisited the three Performing Arts disciplines—drama, music and dance—and discussed routines for specialist transitions and positive learning behaviours. Together, students co-created classroom expectations linked to our school values of Kindness, Responsibility and Resilience, sharing ideas about fair play, respect and caring for equipment. Students then put these ideas into action during Musical Mats, focusing on moving safely, playing fairly, including others and showing good sportsmanship. This lesson supported teamwork, self-control and safe dance practices in an active and engaging way.
Years 3-6
In Performing Arts this week, students explored what Performing Arts is and how it includes drama, music and dance working together to build confidence, creativity and self-expression. As a class, we co-created expectations based on our school values of Kindness, Responsibility and Resilience, discussing how these look in action when performing, using equipment and working with others. Students practised collaboration and adaptability through the drama game Space Jump and learned the importance of safe dance practices, including moving with control, keeping a “body bubble,” being aware of others in the space and following teacher instructions. These shared ideas will be turned into classroom posters to support positive, safe and respectful learning in Performing Arts throughout the year.
