Canteen
Lunches can be ordered directly from the Canteen before school or at recess or via Compass. Ordering will ensure quicker service and enable students their choice of food.
Camps and Excursions
Camps and excursions are an important part of the College program. All notifications and payment advice will be communicated online via the Compass website. Parent permission and all payments for any out-of-college activity, is to be completed online via Compass by the due date.
Participation on camps and excursions is dependent upon a student upholding the College values. Students not in correct uniform may be excluded from the excursion.
Full College Uniform is to be worn on excursions, unless specific notification is given.
Co-Curricular Activities
The College provides a range of co-curricular activities and students are actively encouraged to be involved. Activities include Camps, Excursions, Team Sports, College Sports Carnivals, Drama Productions, Musical Performances, Clubs, the SRC and Student Committees.
Before committing to a number of activities in Year 12, we recommend that students in their final year consider the impact that it will have on their understanding of coursework.
Damage to Buildings or Equipment
Students must report any damage to their Year Level Coordinator.
Emergency Evacuation Procedures
In the event of an emergency in the College requiring evacuation of all buildings, a siren and possibly a voice announcement will be heard through the PA system. All students should make their way, under their classroom teacher's direction, to the College oval (or location as announced). Students are to remain on the oval with their teacher until the all clear is given. A lockdown procedure could be necessary and this will require students to stay in their classroom with their teacher until the all-clear is announced.
Houses
The College is divided into four Houses: Kalinda, Maroondah, Mullum and Yarra.
Instrumental Music
Tuition is available in a variety of instruments. Some instruments may be hired from the College.
Students who are learning an instrument make the following undertakings:
- They will practise regularly and attend lesson regularly.
- If appropriate, they will present for examinations.
- They will play with the College Band or other performing group as requested by the Instrumental Music Coordinator.
Library
The library is open between 8.15am and 4.15pm Monday to Friday, including recess and lunch. Students may borrow up to 6 books but must present their library card. Overnight loans must be returned before school the next day.
Lockers
Lockers should be kept locked. Problems with lockers should be reported to Year Level Coordinators. Students are encouraged to use combination locks which are purchased from the General Office.
Lost Property
Enquire at the General Office, Health Centre or at Sub-School Offices. All property should be clearly named.
Newsletters
'The Norwood Compass' will contain important notices and information about the College. Parents/carers should ensure that the Newsletter is accessed and read.
Student Exit Procedures
Students who are exiting the College, and are moving to another school or educational setting, must communicate directly with their Head of Year Level.
Student Representative Council (SRC)
The SRC meet regularly to present student opinion and assist in leadership of the College. Students have the opportunity to elect representatives.
Valuables
Students are encouraged not to bring valuable items to the College. However, if brought, items are to be left at the General Office or Sub-School Offices for safe keeping. The College does not take any responsibility for private property, particularly mobile phones or other electronic devices.
Visitors
All visitors must report to the General Office and sign in using the Compass kiosk. Under no circumstances are students to invite outsiders into the College grounds or entertain unofficial visitors.
