Progression Policy

Promotion from Year 10 to 11:
To be promoted from Year 10 to Year 11, students must successfully complete six semester units within the four core subjects: English, Maths, Science, and Humanities. If students do not meet these requirements, Norwood Secondary College will recommend an alternative pathway or suggest repeating Year 10 to ensure future success in Year 11.
If a student does not meet the completion requirements, a meeting will be arranged with a member of the Senior School Team, the student, and their parents/carers. This meeting will outline the next steps and include connecting the student with the Careers and Pathways Coordinator to find an appropriate alternative.
Promotion from Year 11 to 12:
Promotion to Year 12 requires the satisfactory completion of at least nine units before entry, including at least one unit of English. If a student completes eight or fewer units, a meeting will be held to determine their promotion status.
Subject selection for Year 12 will be based on meeting the recommended achievement levels for the individual subject units the student wishes to study. It is based on VCE requirements and the satisfactory completion of course outcomes.
Any student who receives an ‘N’ for both Units 1 and 2 of a subject in Year 11 will be required to particpate in a meeting with the Head of Year Level to determine if they are eligible to progress into Units 3 and 4 of that subject. An academic probabtion period may apply.
