Term 4 – Staying Healthy, Safe and Sun-Smart!

Hello Families,

Welcome to Term 4! ☀️ Sick Bay is ready for another busy term, helping students stay healthy, happy, and ready to learn. With warmer weather ahead and some year levels preparing for camps and swimming lessons, it's a great time to refresh our health and safety habits!

☀️ Sun-Smart Superstars!

As the weather warms up, protecting our skin from the sun becomes especially important.

Remember, we follow the “No Hat, No Play” rule at school. Students need to bring their school sun hat every day. If they don't have their hat, they will need to play in a shaded area.

Please help your child stay sun-safe by:

🧢 Packing their school sun hat every day.

🧴 Applying SPF 50 or 50+ broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen before school.

🔄 Reapplying sunscreen every two hours and after swimming or sweating.

🌳 Choosing shaded areas when possible.

Sunscreen is available in classrooms and in Sick Bay to help support students during the school day. Remember, sunscreen works best when combined with a hat, shade and protective clothing!

🏕️ Camps, Swimming & Medical Information

Term 4 is an exciting time, with some year levels participating in camps and swimming programs! To help keep every student safe, please ensure your child's medical information is up to date.

If your child has a medical condition such as asthma, anaphylaxis, diabetes or epilepsy, please check that:

✔️ Their medical action plan is current and has been provided to the school.

✔️ Any required medication is in date and available for school activities.

✔️ The school is informed of any changes to their health, medication or treatment.

✔️ Any additional medication or medical requirements for camps and swimming activities are communicated to the school in advance.

Please contact Sick Bay if you need to update your child's medical information or have any questions about their health needs at school.

A little preparation goes a long way in helping everyone enjoy these activities safely! 💙

💧 Hydration Heroes!

Warmer weather and outdoor activities mean our bodies need plenty of water.

Encourage your child to:

💦 Bring a filled water bottle to school every day.

🚰 Drink water regularly, even when they don't feel thirsty.

🍉 Enjoy water-rich foods such as watermelon, cucumber and oranges.

🏃 Take breaks in the shade during outdoor play.

🤓 Sick Bay Fun Facts!

Did you know?

☀️ You can get sunburnt on cloudy days! Up to 80% of the sun's UV radiation can pass through clouds, so sun protection is important even when the sky looks grey.

💧 Your body needs water to stay cool! Sweating helps regulate your body temperature when you exercise or play outside.

⭐ Student Health Heroes

Let's celebrate our Health Heroes this term! A big shout-out to students who are:

🧢 Remembering their hats every day.

💧 Drinking water and keeping their bottles filled.

🧴 Practising sun-safe habits.

💙 Looking after themselves and their friends.

🏕️ Being prepared for camps, swimming and other school activities.

Wishing all our students and families a happy, healthy and sun-safe Term 4!

Stay well, stay sun-smart! ☀️
