Performing Arts News

From Sam Howard, Dan Dinnen and Patrick Connor Performing Arts teachers
Performing Arts this term has started off with a bang. Let's have a look at what our campuses are doing.
This term at Molesworth Street Campus, the team has decided to implement elements of the Wellbeing curriculum with our drama and music program. Our students are acting out situations in which someone might have heightened emotions and modeling mindful breathing to help us regulate our mind and bodies (in for 2, hold for 2, out for 4). The students use instruments such as triangles and xylophones to help guide their breathing. Below are our students Anabelle, Jawahir, Erdem, Josslyn and Bailey from 1B showing this very activity. We are also working on some groovy dances that are hip-hop inspired which the students are enjoying.
At Errol Street Campus, the students are doing some dancing and drumming inspired from Africa. As well as using Woi-Wurrung counting in their singing. It is such a pleasure to see the ways which the Performing Arts program continues to promote inclusion and diversity, an important part of the North Melbourne Primary School ethos.
With the school fete not far away, we have some special things planned to showcase the talent of our students so keep an eye out for that in the next installment of our newsletter. Until then, rock on North Melbourne!
