Year 6 News

From Ava McLaughlin, Year 6B Teacher
It's the final countdown
Shout Out
We would like to congratulate Claire Lin from 6A who has recently had her artwork on display at the Forever Young at Heart Children Art Exhibition in Kew.
Here are two of her artworks.
Claire described this artwork as a gateway between reality and fantasy. A young witch soars above a vibrant forest inhabited by elves and wildlife, while a compact magic city awaits her exploration in the distant clouds.
Amazing work, Claire! We are so proud!
Reading
We have focused on features of dystopian texts and looked at the ways authors use setting to tell us information about a world. We have practiced annotating prologues and excerpts from different dystopian novels like The Hunger Games, The City of Ember and more.
Writing
We have looked at the importance of setting and using specific words and phrases to describe the environment for our readers. We practiced upgrading our vocabulary and using literary devices like similes, metaphors, and personification to make our descriptions more vivid for our readers.
Maths
So far this term, we have been learning about fractions in maths. For example, we have reviewed how to add and subtract fractions when they have different denominators. In order to convert two fractions so they have a common denominator, you need to find the lowest common multiple or LCM of the two denominators.
We have also practiced multiplying fractions and showing our working out using area models.
We are looking forward to a wonderful final term of primary school! There are so many exciting things happening this term including the fete, swimming, and graduation!
Year 6 also has their first year level assembly this Friday all NMPS community members are welcome to attend!
