Teaching & Learning Report
We are rapidly approaching the conclusion of Term 3, and it's incredible to see the culmination of another busy and highly productive term. Throughout this term, our students have had numerous opportunities to enrich their learning experiences, and families have had the chance to engage with teachers and students in celebrating and showcasing their wonderful work and progress. Here's a glimpse of the exciting events and activities that have taken place:
Subject Expo: was an opportunity for students in years 7-11 to explore various subjects and interests with their parents and carers.
Science Week Science Fair: Students showcased their scientific discoveries and projects to the school community.
Book Week: Students explored their passion for Storytime adventure with lots of activities during break times.
Night at the Museum: An engaging and educational experience and a visit into the wonderful world history, parents and families came to celebrate the work of our budding historians and geographers.
Internationalism Program: we have welcomed students from our sister school is Spain, Gredos San Diego, this provided a wonderful opportunity for our students to develop language and cultural understanding.
Instrumental Solo performance: Students delighted audiences at the Instrumental Solo Concert, showcasing their musical talents in a wonderful evening of music and performance.
Royal Melbourne Show Entries
This year, Ms Mikulas and Ms Brown, our Food Studies teachers, have supported students in preparing and submitting entries to the Royal Melbourne Show in categories including jams and preserves, cake decorating, cupcakes, and protein balls.
As can be seen from the photographs, students have created some truly outstanding pieces. Their entries demonstrate a high level of skill, creativity, and attention to detail, reflecting the hard work and dedication they have shown throughout the process. The quality of their work is exceptional, and they are certainly strong contenders for awards.
We wish all participating students the very best and congratulate them on their commitment, effort, and achievement in producing work of such a high standard. Regardless of the results, they should be immensely proud of their accomplishments and the way they have represented the College.
Term 3 Reports
Our students have worked diligently this term, completing assessment tasks as part of their learning journey. Teachers have carefully assessed each child's progress. Term 3 Reports were distributed in hard copy to students on Wednesday, September 9, during WYNtime and the students completed a report Reflection reflecting on this term’s progress and setting goals for next term.
Report reflection offers a valuable opportunity for students to self-reflect on their progress, effort, attitude, and behaviors that have either supported or posed challenges to their learning. This self-reflection will aid them in setting meaningful goals for ongoing improvement. Parents and caregivers, we encourage you to engage in discussions with your child about their goals and how you can support them in achieving these aspirations.
Parent-Student-Teacher Conference.
On Tuesday, 15 September, Parent-Student-Teacher Conferences are held, providing families with an opportunity to discuss their child's learning, progress, and achievements with their teacher.
As part of this reporting cycle, we will trial offering phone conferences alongside traditional face to face meeting options. This initiative aims to provide parents and carers with multiple ways to engage in meaningful conversations about their child's progress and learning, while offering greater flexibility to accommodate family schedules.
We value the partnership between home and school and encourage all families to take advantage of this opportunity to celebrate successes, discuss growth, and identify next steps for learning.
AVID Demonstration School Showcase Friday 4 September
On Friday 4 September, we were proud to host an AVID Showcase, as an AVID Demonstration School welcoming representatives from AVID Australia, colleagues from other AVID schools, and local principals who visited our school to see AVID strategies in action across a range of classrooms.
Guests had the opportunity to observe firsthand how AVID supports student engagement, organisation, critical thinking, collaboration, and academic success. The classroom visits provided an excellent insight into the high-quality teaching and learning occurring every day at our school and demonstrated how AVID strategies are empowering students to become confident, independent learners.
A highlight of the day was the outstanding presentation led by Ms Lee and the students of 10C, who expertly showcased AVID's impact within our school community. Visitors were particularly impressed by the students' confidence, knowledge, and ability to articulate their learning experiences.
The showcase concluded with a highly engaging student panel featuring representatives from Years 7 to 12, who shared their personal AVID journeys and reflected on how the program has supported their learning, goal setting, organisation, leadership, and aspirations for the future. Their honest reflections and insights provided a powerful testament to the positive impact of AVID on student growth and achievement.
We extend our sincere thanks to Ms Lee, the students of 10C, and all members of the student panel for their preparation, professionalism, and willingness to share their experiences. They represented our school with pride and demonstrated the very best of student voice and leadership.
The day was a wonderful showcase of research-based best practice, collaborative learning, and our commitment to providing students with the skills they need to succeed both in school and beyond. We thank all our visitors for attending and celebrating the outstanding work taking place in our AVID classrooms.

Organisation: Cornell Notes organising thinking and AVID Binder organising equipment
As an AVID school, we are committed to empowering students to effectively utilize the Cornell note-taking system. Parents and caregivers, we request your support in encouraging your child to complete the Cornell note-taking steps using the 10-24-7 method. This method involves reviewing and revising daily notes each night, formulating questions the following night, and creating summaries at the week's end. This proven approach not only boosts student confidence but also enhances exam results. Organisational skills are equally crucial for success, so please ensure your child maintains a well-organized binder for all their classes.
Learning Behaviors to Increase Student Engagement
Students will require a complex combination of dispositions, skills, values, and attitudes to be successful future-oriented lifelong learners. Personal qualities like resilience and the ability to communicate and collaborate with others become important elements of our learners' identities.
At Wyndham Central College, we are committed to ensuring all students have the tools they need to succeed. This year, we have explicitly taught the Amy Berry Engagement Continuum to help students understand the behaviours that drive positive learning outcomes. The model introduces students to key language and strategies that enable them to identify their own levels of engagement and take steps to improve their focus and participation. By embedding this framework into our daily practices, we aim to empower students to take greater ownership of their learning, boosting both their engagement and overall academic performance.
Parents can play an important role in reinforcing this model at home. By using the same language of engagement and discussing the behaviours of effective learning with your child, you can help them set meaningful goals and reflect on their progress. Encourage your child to identify areas where they can improve their focus and effort in school, and celebrate when they demonstrate positive learning behaviours. Working together, we can help every student increase their engagement and achieve greater academic success.
Homework Club
We want to extend our appreciation for the dedicated staff who have made Homework Club a resounding success this term. As a reminder, Wyndham Central College offers Homework Club every Wednesday in the Monash Building from 3:10 pm to 4:00 pm. This invaluable resource, facilitated by experienced teachers, supports students who voluntarily attend. Our teachers provide assistance to students who may be facing challenges with classwork, assignments, or homework. It's a space where students can work with teacher support if needed. We encourage you to motivate your child/children to take advantage of Homework Club.
