Assistant Principal's Report

It has been wonderful to see the continued commitment, energy and enthusiasm of our students across Years 10–12 this term. This is an important and busy time of the year, with students working towards key milestones, making decisions about their future pathways and continuing to build the skills and confidence they need for life beyond school.

Congratulations to the talented WCC students who performed at the opening of the Wyndham Learning Festival on Friday 14 August. Our students performed ambient music in the foyer of the Wyndham Cultural Centre creating a beautiful atmosphere for the evening.

It was such a proud moment to watch our students perform and see the audience enjoying the music, with smiles from ear to ear! Their confidence, creativity and musical talent was fantastic to see.

A huge thank you to Ms Smith for supporting the event and helping make this opportunity possible for our students.

Senior Years Cooking Club

Our Senior Years Cooking Club has been a fantastic opportunity for students to come together, develop their cooking skills and enjoy creating something delicious as a team.

Although a few sessions unfortunately had to be cancelled throughout the term, the students have made the most of the sessions that did go ahead.

What we cooked:

                                          Choc Chip Cookies / Souvlaki / Pizza / Bolognaise 

It has been wonderful to see students working together, trying new recipes and building their confidence in the kitchen. A big thank you to everyone who has supported the Cooking Club, and to our students for their enthusiasm and willingness to get involved.

We look forward to getting back into the kitchen and creating more delicious dishes together!

🥉 Congratulations Krista!

A huge congratulations to Krista, who recently competed in the Thailand Open Karate Championship and achieved an outstanding result, winning a bronze medal in the Junior Girls Team Event.

This is a fantastic achievement and a wonderful recognition of Krista’s dedication, commitment and hard work in karate. We are incredibly proud of her success on the international stage!

Celebrating Our Year 11 Students

On Tuesday 25 August, I had the pleasure of attending our Year 11 Assembly and presenting the Academic and Tutor Awards to a number of outstanding students.

It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the hard work, commitment and positive contributions of our Year 11 students. Congratulations to all students who received an award — your dedication and achievements are something to be proud of.

A special thank you to our Year 11 tutors and teachers for the encouragement, support and guidance they provide to our students each day. It was a privilege to be part of this celebration and recognise the achievements of our Year 11 cohort.

A huge congratulations to our VM students on the incredible success of their Walk-a-Thon celebrating national PE week!

 It was fantastic to see the enthusiasm, teamwork and effort that went into making the event such a success.

I was particularly impressed by the planning and preparation that went into the day. The students showed great initiative and ownership, and the attention to detail was evident throughout. The beads were a particular highlight and added a fun and colourful touch to the event!

Well done to all of our VM students for your hard work, creativity and commitment. You should be very proud of what you achieved!

Wyndham Learning Festival Part 2

Wyndham Central College was proud to host an event as part of the Wyndham Learning Festival, celebrating the work and achievements of our school community through the presentation of our School Reconciliation Action Plan. 

It was a wonderful day of learning, connection and celebration, beginning with a moving smoking ceremony and featuring contributions from many current and past students of the College. 

A particular highlight was hearing Year 12 student Kailyn, who shared her story behind the artwork she and the student group created, providing a meaningful insight into the ideas and inspiration behind the piece. 

Congratulations to the entire RAP team for bringing together such a wonderful event and for showcasing the strength, creativity and spirit of our WCC community.

Year 12 Practice Examinations

Our Year 12 VCE students are preparing for their upcoming practice examinations, an important opportunity to experience exam conditions and put their preparation into practice.

The Year 12 English practice examination will be held on Tuesday 15 September, with the remaining Year 12 practice examinations taking place from Monday 5 October to Friday 9 October.

We encourage all students to use this time to revise, ask questions, complete practice questions and make the most of the support available from their teachers. These examinations are a valuable opportunity to identify areas for improvement and build confidence ahead of the final VCE examinations.

Good luck to all our Year 12 students — we are looking forward to seeing your hard work and preparation pay off!

Year Level Leader's Report - Year 10

It has been wonderful to see so many outstanding reports this term, a real recognition of the effort and dedication that students displayed. We know it can be difficult juggling the increased expectations, work experience, selecting their future pathways and subjects plus for many a part-time job and it is such a pleasure to see students maturing and developing those skills.   

As a chance to celebrate the year and unwind before they begin their year 11 subjects. All year 10's will have an excursion to O’Briens IceHouse and ArtVo on Wednesday 11th November. This is a great chance to learn some new skills and enjoy the day with their friends. Thank you to all those who have already responded on Compass. If you’ve not yet had the chance, we would appreciate if you could respond as soon as possible and ideally before the end of this term in order that we can secure the number of buses and the number of sessions we need on the ice rink.  If there are any issues responding on Compass, please could your student request a paper form from the senior office or contact Mr Robson.  

Students are also busy arranging a well-being activity for their peers which will take place next term. This will be another opportunity to celebrate the year and participate in some fun or relaxing activities of their choice.   

As they prepare to enter Year 11, we would encourage students to keep an eye on their Microsoft Teams pages, in particular the Careers page. There are lots of opportunities posted on there. Recent postings include information about careers sessions from the ADF, a Drama and Theatre Arts sessions from Melbourne Polytechnic, information about a career in travel and information about the Bachelor of Songwriting and Music Production.  We hope as many students as possible can take advantage of the opportunities available, and on that I would like to congratulate the 5 students who were successful in securing an endorsement for the Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars program. We wish them all the luck in the next round of the selection process.  

It has been a fantastic and busy term 3 all round and we hope that everyone gets the chance to relax and recharge their batteries before ending year 10 next term and stepping up into year 11 for the last 2 weeks of their year.

Year Level Leader's Report - Year 11

Year 11 Achievement and Growth

As Year 11 students move towards the completion of their first year of VCE, they should be commended for the commitment and resilience they have demonstrated throughout the year. Navigating the demands of senior school requires persistence, organisation, and a strong work ethic, and many students have risen to these challenges with maturity and determination.

Recently, at our senior years assembly, we celebrated students who have consistently demonstrated excellence in their learning, maintained a strong commitment to their studies, and approached their education with a positive attitude. These students were recognised for the high standards they set through their effort, responsibility, and dedication. 

Congratulations also go to all Year 11 students who have continued to engage positively in their classes and work steadily towards their goals.

Term 3 Reports

Term 3 reports are now available and provide students with an opportunity to reflect on their learning journey and identify areas for continued growth. During WYNtime sessions, students have reviewed their achievements, considered feedback, and set goals as they prepare for the final term of the year.

Families and carers are encouraged to access and discuss these reports with their child through Compass. The reports offer valuable insights into academic progress, assessment outcomes, attendance, learning behaviours, and completion of coursework, helping students maintain focus on their goals for the remainder of the year.

Attendance Matters

As students progress through the senior years, consistent attendance remains critical to academic success. Every lesson provides valuable opportunities for learning, feedback, and collaboration with teachers and peers. Students are encouraged to maintain strong attendance and punctuality habits to ensure they remain up to date with coursework, assessment requirements, and key information as they prepare for the challenges of their final year of schooling.

Year 11 Examination Preparation

With the Year 11 examinations approaching, students should begin establishing effective study routines and revision schedules. These assessments provide an opportunity for students to consolidate their learning, identify areas for improvement, and gain valuable experience with the expectations of Year 12. Students are encouraged to seek support from their teachers if they require assistance with revision strategies or subject-specific preparation.

Preparing for Year 12

As students begin planning for their final year of secondary school, it is important that they meet the requirements for progression into Year 12. To be eligible, students must successfully complete a minimum of nine of their twelve Year 11 units, including Units 1 and 2 English.

Students who have outstanding coursework, assessment tasks, or redemption requirements should use the coming weeks to address these commitments and ensure they commence next year in the strongest possible position. Families and carers are encouraged to communicate with classroom teachers if they require clarification regarding course completion requirements or advice on supporting their child to achieve satisfactory results in their studies.

Year Level Leader's Report - Year 12

The end of our Year 12 students’ secondary school journey is fast approaching. Over the past term, they have been working with great focus and determination to complete the final parts of their courses in preparation for exams. This period is both exciting and challenging, and we are proud of the resilience and commitment our students continue to show as they take these important final steps. 

Attendance

Regular attendance remains particularly important during the final weeks of Year 12. All students should continue attending all scheduled classes until Wednesday 21 October, which will be their final regular school day for all Year 12 students.

Year 12 Internal English Exam

• The Year 12 English internal examination will be held on Tuesday 15 September from 9:00 am to 12:15 pm in the school Gym. Following the examination, students are encouraged to remain in the AVID Centre until 4.30pm to access tutoring support from AVID tutors. No regular Year 12 classes will run on this day due to the Parent-Student-Teacher Conferences taking place for Years 7–11. 

• Non-scored students will not attend the English exam and will stay at home as it is our Parent Teacher conference day without classes. 

Year 12 Internal exams (Other than English)

All Year 12 VCE students will then sit their end-of-year practice examinations from Monday 5 October to Friday 9 October.  Students will only be required to attend school to sit their timetabled exam and are to remain home for study purposes at all other times.

• Exams are for VCE students 

• Year 12 VM classes will run as normal.

• Any non-scored students must attend school during normal school hours from Monday to Thursday and will be advised of the location by the Year Level Leader. On Friday (student free day), non-scored students will not attend.

• VET classes will run as normal.

• For Year 11 students enrolled in Year 12 subjects, attending the Year 12 internal examinations takes priority. 

• In line with VCAA final examination expectations, students who are absent on the day of the exam will not be permitted to reschedule the exam for another time. This includes absences due to medical reasons unless approved by the Senior Years Team.

Tertiary Pathways – VTAC Registration

Our Transition and Pathways Leader, Ms. Pina Siragusano, has been working closely with our Year 12 students to support them with applications for tertiary pathways, including TAFE and university. Please note that all Year 12 students must register with VTAC by 28 September. The registration fee is $83.00. Students who register after this date will incur additional late fees. Ms. Siragusano will continue to support all students throughout this process. If you have any questions, please contact her via the College office.

Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) Information

Recently, Deakin University ambassadors presented to our students about the Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS). This scheme recognises students whose studies may have been impacted by various circumstances and provides them with additional consideration during their tertiary applications. As Wyndham Central College is located in an eligible area, all of our students are able to apply for SEAS.

Key Dates:

• 18 September 2026 – Recommended submission date (to allow VTAC staff to review applications and provide feedback).

• 9 October 2025 – Final cut-off date for SEAS applications.

   

More information about SEAS, including eligibility categories and how to apply, is available on the VTAC website: vtac.edu.au/access/seas.html. We encourage all students to take advantage of this opportunity if applicable.

End of Year Celebrations

In Week 3 of Term 4, we will be celebrating the end of our Year 12 students’ time at Wyndham Central College.

Schedule of Events:

• Monday 19 October – Regular Subject Classes

• Tuesday 20 October – Funfields Excursion

• Wednesday 21 October – Year 12 Celebration Day

• Thursday 22 October – Year 12 Valedictory at Sheldon Reception, Sunshine.

• Friday, 23 October - No timetabled classes. Students studying at home or meet with the Year 12 teachers with prior arrangements for study support and exam preparation.

   

Families and carers are reminded to purchase Valedictory tickets as soon as possible. Ticket sales via TryBooking will close on Friday 18 September. At this stage, families may purchase a maximum of 3 tickets (including the student’s ticket). Following this date, if additional tickets become available, families will be notified via Compass. These will be released on a “first in” basis.

As our Year 12 students conclude Term 3 and head into their holidays, I encourage you to continue supporting your child to ensure they complete all outstanding work and achieve an S for every subject.
