Year 11 English

I am Charlie - By Lyndsay Mackenzie

I am stubborn yet an activist

I wonder if there’s a day that we’ll regain our rights

I hear the loss of faith around me, complaints of our current ways

I see the impacts and damage of Western society around me

I want to release my community from the grasps of our oppressors

I am stubborn yet an activist

I pretend that I am connected to my land whilst I drink with Faith

I feel a strong sense of isolation

I touch the hearts of others whilst reaching for my ancestors

I worry that I am truly forever lost

I am stubborn yet an activist

I understand that I must step forward and help my community

I say that we must regain our cultural practices

I dream of being liberated from lawful restrictions

I try to make a difference and teach our traditions

I hope that our younger generations will not lose our ways

I am stubborn yet an activist
