Tool Skills Day - Women In Trade

On Thursday 6th of March a small group of Year 8 and 9 students visited the Yarra Ranges Tech School to participate in a Tool Skills Day run by Box Hill Institute and Empowered Women in Trades.
We toured the trade facilities at the Lilydale Campus of Box Hill Institute before students participated in hands-on activities, using a range of electrical, plumbing and building tools and materials.
Women in Australia represent a small percentage of the trades workforce, with figures suggesting they make up roughly 3% of the construction industry and even less in specific trade occupations like electrical work. The students enjoyed the day and many expressed interest in entering into a trade career in the future.
