The podcast project
This special project culminated in the production of podcast that are now ready for broadcast.
The Year 11 Health and Human Development and VM - Work Related Skills classes have worked together to learn about what goes on behind the scenes of media production specifically related to radio shows and podcasts. As a collective we researched topics of gambling harm and graffiti and their impacts on the wider community. With our new found skills we worked in small groups to host a podcast on one of the community issues, each of us interviewing a special guest related to our chosen topic.
Our group had fun learning about both the on and off camera jobs that are required to have a successful radio show or podcast; from the photography used for social media and publicity to ensuring the sound was perfect to record our interview. For our podcast, we chose to investigate the effects of gambling harm and had the opportunity to interview a person with lived experience with gambling harm and addiction. It was moving to hear his journey, and learn about the effects that gambling can have on many aspects of your life and the impact it can have on young people who know adults suffering a gambling addiction. This experience has been something that challenged our comfort zones but has been a great experience to be part of. Having to quickly overcome the nerves of hosting your own radio show and having to ask some uncomfortable questions in order to get the best answers from our guest and the best podcast for our listeners. Something that was thoroughly enjoyable and an experience that has taught us so much about ourselves.
