School Council Report

The School Council met for the third time this year. An important part of this meeting was to ensure the School Council had training on our role and obligations with regard to the Child Safe Standards. We had all been provided with detailed materials prior to the meeting. Ms Brown then took us through a presentation of the Child Safe Standards and the actions for us as school council. Our role includes approving the Child Safety Code of Conduct and relevant policies. We can also provide our views on child safety issues as part of the school community and report any child safety risks or concerns we become aware of. We were given an overview of the various child safety documents for the school which cover a range of issues from complaints, reporting incident, information sharing, record keeping and privacy as well as checks performed on staff, volunteers and others attending the school.

We received report on the staff professional development day  which covered a range of topics including trauma informed practice, disability inclusion and the new MGSC Instructional Model. We also reviewed the PFA report and were pleased to learn more about the $21,000 worth of projects the PFA have funded around the school including a new BBQ, a laser cutter, tennis nets and headset microphones.

An important part of the role of school council every meeting is to consider the financial reports. Detailed consideration occurs at the finance sub committee meeting but Kelly always does a very thorough explanation of the reports for approval by the school council.

It's really lovely to have our two new student representatives at our meetings, Gemma Ong and Madelyn Lust. They are making a thoughtful contribution and learning about the role of the school council.
