College Matters
As the Assistant Principal overseeing Student Learning Growth, it is my pleasure to extend my heartfelt congratulations to our Year 9, 10, and 11 students on the successful completion of their Semester 1 exams. This milestone marks a significant achievement in their academic journey, and we are incredibly proud of the dedication and perseverance they have demonstrated. I particularly enjoyed seeing how much students supported one another in the lead up to the exams. Our College Captains Liv and Lucy’s catchphrase “Mentone Girls’ support Mentone Girls” certainly was exemplified over the last few weeks.
For our Year 9 students, this period was particularly momentous as it was their first experience with formal exams. Transitioning to this new stage of assessment can be challenging, yet they approached it with resilience and a positive mindset. The courage and commitment shown by our Year 9 cohort in facing this new challenge head-on is truly commendable. Well done!
Our Year 10 and 11 students have continued to build on their previous experiences, showing remarkable growth and maturity. Their ability to manage their studies, prepare thoroughly, and perform under exam conditions is a testament to their hard work and determination, as well as the hard work of their teachers. Each of you has exemplified the values of our school, and your efforts do not go unnoticed.
Exams are not just a measure of what you know, but an opportunity for reflection and growth. As we celebrate your achievements, I encourage you to use this experience to reflect on your performance. Consider what strategies worked well for you and where there might be room for improvement. Think about how you managed your time, how you approached your study, and how you felt during the exams.
This period of reflection is crucial as it provides valuable insights that can help you prepare more effectively for your Semester 2 exams and beyond. Whether it’s refining your study techniques, seeking additional support in challenging subjects, or setting new academic goals, each step you take in this direction contributes to your continuous growth as a learner.
Remember, learning is a journey, and each experience, including exams, is a step forward. Your teachers are here to support you every step of the way and are available to provide guidance and assistance as you reflect on your Semester 1 performance and plan for the future. Thank you to the MGSC teachers who prepared students for their exams. These teachers wrote, proofread, and marked these exams, all while continuing to teach their Year 7, 8, and 12 classes and preparing for the start of a new semester. Thank you to Rochelle Dickson (Director of Assessment and Analytics), for her outstanding leadership of the exams, and thank you to our dedicated Education Support staff for the hours of work behind the scenes to ensure the exam period ran smoothly.
If students or parents/carers have any feedback about the exam period, please contact us – we are always looking to improve.
Once again, congratulations to all our Year 9, 10, and 11 students on your hard-earned achievements. We are incredibly proud of you and excited to see how you will continue to grow and excel in the coming semester.

Train Replacement Buses
There will be disruption to the Frankston train line for level crossing removal works at Parkdale in the first three weeks of term 3. Our school has been offered a special train replacement bus service in the afternoons for students travelling south toward Mordialloc. The buses will come to MGSC to collect our students. This saves going to Mentone station and waiting for replacement buses with other commuters. More information will be shared when the arrangement is confirmed.
