Year 5/6 News

Hello everyone!

In Mathematics, we began our Fractions unit, with a focus on comparing fractions and solving addition and subtraction problems. Students used fraction walls to visually compare and order fractions, helping to build a deeper understanding of equivalence and relative size. Through this work, students were encouraged to explain their thinking and choose efficient strategies to support their reasoning.

In Literacy, we began our class novel Tom Appleby, Convict Boy by Jackie French. To help bring the story to life, students explored what life was like for children during the Industrial Age, building a deeper understanding of Tom’s experiences. Throughout the week, they engaged in thoughtful discussions and comprehension tasks, exploring key events, character motivations, and the impact of different perspectives within the story.

In Religion, as part of our St Fidelis Feast Day celebrations last Friday, students spent the week learning about the life of St Fidelis and the qualities that led to his sainthood. They created their own fact files to showcase their learning and reflected on how they can follow his example in their own lives.

In Inquiry, students have been enthusiastically working on their camp recount presentations, preparing to share their experiences with their families. They have taken great pride in showcasing the highlights of camp, reflecting on the activities they enjoyed, the challenges they overcame, and the friendships they strengthened along the way. The presentations look fantastic and truly capture the excitement, fun, and special memories created during this memorable experience.
