Year 1 News

We had a fantastic and eventful week last week in year one, where we celebrated Saint Fidelis Feast Day and learned more about our numbers in maths!
Last Friday, we joyfully celebrated St Fidelis Feast Day. As religious thinkers, we learned about the life and values of our Patron Saint, St Fidelis. Throughout the day, we participated in a range of activities that encouraged teamwork and collaboration.
We began our celebrations with Mass at St Fidelis Church, coming together as a school community to reflect and give thanks. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our shared faith and learn more about the example set by St Fidelis.
As mathematical thinkers, we have been learning to match number numerals with their number names. We have been practising writing numbers, as well as identifying and correctly spelling number names. This has helped us become more confident and accurate when working with numbers.
This week, we will be learning about…
- Numeracy: Counting and Place Value- partitioning and breaking up numbers, locating numbers on a number line.
- Reading: Predicting and using our prior knowledge, identifying adjectives, making connections.
- InitiaLit: New sounds: ue, ew (like in cute and new). Revising learnt sounds and digraphs and building, reading and spelling words and sentences (Learnt sounds: m, s, t, a, p, i, f, r, c, o, d, h, e, n, g, l, k, u, b, j, w, ck, ll, ff, ss, sh, qu, ee, z, zz, ch, v, x, th, wh, y, ng, oo, ay, ai, ee, ea, oa, ow, igh, _y),
- Writing: Mother’s Day Cards
- Inquiry: Toys and Technology over time
