Year 2 News

We had a wonderful week in Year 2 from commemorating ANZAC day with our assembly on Monday and celebrating Saint Fidelis with our Feast Day on Friday, and all the learning in between.

As Inquirers, we have launched into our new unit exploring technology and how it has changed over time. We began by brainstorming what technology means, sharing our prior knowledge and recognising that technology is all around us, from simple tools to modern digital devices. We discussed the many ways technology helps us in our everyday lives, including communication, learning, transport and entertainment.

As Mathematicians, we explored number lines and their key features. We discussed intervals and why they need to be evenly spaced to represent numbers accurately. We then practised placing a variety of numbers on different number lines, building our understanding of where numbers belong. We worked with both 2-digit and 3-digit numbers, which helped us develop a stronger sense of number order, scale and magnitude.

As People of Faith, we have been learning about the story of the Road to Emmaus. We explored this important Scripture by engaging in a thinking routine called Looking Ten Times Two, where we carefully observed and analysed an artwork connected to the story, noticing new details with each viewing. We were also exposed to both the written Scripture and an animated version of the story, which supported us in developing a deeper understanding of the events and message. This multimodal approach helped bring the story to life and encouraged meaningful reflection and discussion about its significance.
