Ms Naomi Mlambo joined St George’s at the start of this term as our new IT Support and Helpdesk officer, helping students at her base in the Common Room of our Murray St Campus.

Welcome to St George's! Please tell us a little about your background and what brought you into the world of IT?

"I recently completed a Computer Science degree majoring in Cyber Security, but my interest in IT started long before that. I’ve always been curious about how technology works and enjoyed figuring things out when problems came up. That curiosity eventually grew into a real interest in IT and cybersecurity."

What piece of technology could you not live without?

"Definitely my phone. I depend on it for pretty much everything from messages and emails to reminders and directions."

If you could instantly solve one common tech problem forever, what would it be?

"Wi Fi issues. Nothing tests people’s patience more than the internet suddenly deciding it no longer wants to work, especially when everything these days depends on being connected."

What’s the coolest or most interesting piece of tech you’ve worked with?

"One of the most interesting things I’ve worked on was creating an AI model that could detect facial moods and expressions using algorithms and machine learning. It was really interesting seeing how technology can recognise patterns and interpret emotions through data."

What did you enjoy most about school when you were a student?

"Definitely the friendships and sense of community. I went to both a boarding school and a regular school in Johannesburg in South Africa, and really enjoyed the relationships you build and those everyday moments with friends that make school so memorable."

What’s your first impression of St George’s, and what are you most looking forward to about working in our school community?

"My first impression of St George’s has been really positive. Everyone has been welcoming and supportive, and it already feels like a great community to be part of. I’m looking forward to getting to know students and staff better and helping support everyone with their technology needs."
