It has been a busy start to the year in the Library. It’s exciting to have some new clubs begin and we have some new displays to check out.

D & D Club: After a false start, our D & D Club held it’s first meeting on Monday, 2 March. Ms Collins and Mr Larkin ably led 21 students who were new to the game, through a session to help them understand how it works and what could be possible. The mood in the room was extremely positive and feedback from students indicates this will be a very popular club.

If you already have a game running with your school friends, you’re welcome to come and play each Monday during D & D club. If you missed the first meeting, don’t worry, you haven’t missed out. All equipment is supplied, so all you need to do is come along next week and you’ll be made welcome.

Writing Group: The first meeting of the Creative Writing Group was

held last Wednesday, 25 February. A small group of students gathered, and we had a lot of fun discussing how the group will run and what we’re hoping to achieve in this group. If you haven’t made it yet, it’s not too late to join, feel free to come along next week. All are welcome, the more the merrier.

CBCA Notables: The Children’s Book Council of Australia have released their notable list of books in contention for this year’s Book of the Year Awards for Older Readers. Of the 22 books, the library has 14 of these books in our collection.  From this list, 6 will be shortlisted with the winner announced on Friday, 21 August (Book Week). These books will also be read by students who participate in this year’s Shadow Judging Panel. They will vote for their pick and compare it with the actual winners.

More information will be out in the next couple of weeks, and these books will be on display in the Library, for students to borrow. If you’re planning on being part of this year’s Shadow Judging Panels, you could get a head start and start reading these books in preparation.

Women’s History month display: March is Women’s History month and in the foyer of the Library, you’ll find a display celebrating some extraordinary Australian women from all walks of life, from Edith Cowan to Shemara Wikramanayake.

Library Volunteers: Our library volunteer program with 23 successful applicants for this year’s program. Students will be rostered on to the library desk during lunch hours performing regular duties such as borrowing and returning books, shelving, tidying up and processing new books. I’m looking forward to working with them this year.
