“Science and Snacks” on Thursday afternoons has quickly become a highlight of the week for our VCE students, offering a relaxed and supportive space to strengthen students understanding of key science concepts. Each session brings together students in VCE Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Physics and Psychology who are eager to revise class content, ask questions, and build confidence in the areas they find most challenging. With teachers on hand for guidance, students can revisit tricky topics, practice exam‑style questions, and explore ideas in more depth.

While the focus is on the academic progress of the students, it’s also nice to see the social connections and the positive routines built in study groups. We encourage all senior science students to attend and grab a snack while you improve your understanding.
Our Year 9 Biotechnology STEM class has made a great start to the year, settling in quickly and showing strong enthusiasm for learning. Students have been exploring different technologies used in modern biotechnology, exploring how discoveries and technologies developed in the past and predicting the advancements in future. It has been wonderful to see their curiosity, teamwork, and positive attitudes in the classroom.

Our Year 11 Chemistry students have made a fantastic start to the year and have settled into Senior Science with confidence and enthusiasm. Recently, they have been investigating the unique properties of transition metals, exploring their vibrant colours and observing how these can change when mixed with different chemicals. It has been wonderful to see students working collaboratively, thinking critically, and engaging so positively with hands-on scientific learning.

Our Year 7 students have been busy settling into the science lab this term, with a strong focus on learning how to work safely and confidently during practical lessons. One of their first milestones has been mastering the correct procedures for using a Bunsen burner. Students have learned how to set up their equipment, check for hazards and identify the safety flame versus the heating flame. Through guided practice, they’ve demonstrated their ability to follow instructions carefully and behave responsibly around heat and open flame. To celebrate their newly gained skill, each student has now earned their Bunsen burner licence, which is a fun and meaningful way to acknowledge their readiness for more hands‑on experiments throughout the year.
