The Amazing Transformation of the Library Continues!

This past week has seen the delivery and assembly of new shelves for the Secondary School fiction and non-fiction sections of our library. This has been a mammoth task involving the amazing Maintenance Team, my fantastic assistant, Ms Little, and the delightful library monitors and their friends. Well over 7,000 books were removed from their old shelves, those shelves disassembled, new shelves assembled, and the books placed on those new shelves. This has all been in the words of Mark Twain, “a journey, not a destination.”

A New System For Our Students

However, all this hard work has paid off. The library looks and feels amazing, and borrowing has increased across the board, more than double the rate of last year. It is truly wonderful to see our students exploring the wider world through books. We have continued our genrefying process and have also divided our non-fiction books into sections such as Faith, History, Literature, Music, Art, and Australia. Please come and have a look on Open Day!

The Junior Section has continued to be very popular too, and there are certain series of books which I cannot keep on the shelf because they are so popular. We are continuing to purchase new books and have just purchased The Very Big series of Bible stories and the newly published God’s Very Special Letters - The Epistles for Kids.

As the holidays approach, I can agree with Jane Austen, “I declare after all there is no enjoyment in reading! How much sooner one tires of anything than of a book!”

Have a blessed Easter!
