Year 7 Camp

The beginning of Year 7 has marked a significant season of new beginnings, growth, and discovery for our students. As they transition into Secondary School, they have embraced new routines, rising expectations, and a shift in learning culture with resilience and enthusiasm. A key milestone of Term 1 was the Year 7 Camp at Anglesea, facilitated by AUSCAMP. This experience provided students with the opportunity to step outside their comfort zones, build new friendships, and grow in confidence through a range of outdoor challenges and activities.

Throughout the camp, students immersed themselves in activities such as canoeing and bodyboarding, embracing both the excitement and challenge of water-based experiences. They demonstrated perseverance during a demanding hike, encouraged one another across mountain bike trails, and enjoyed moments of friendly competition through sports such as soccer and volleyball. These shared experiences fostered teamwork, resilience, and a strong sense of camaraderie.

Students also had the opportunity to work collaboratively in team challenges. From preparing and cooking meals together with limited ingredients to engaging in problem-solving tasks and physical challenges such as rock climbing and team races, students learned the value of cooperation, communication, and perseverance. These activities not only built practical skills but also strengthened relationships within the cohort.

One of my favourite activities amongst everything else was night games with Mr Cutler. Something that was great about camp was that it was a great setting to make new friends as we never had to think about schoolwork, which completely opened our minds to making new friends. A memory I will remember from camp was when me and a group of my friends got together and had Pastor Matt take a picture of us.

A particularly special moment was the evening reflection led around the campfire and message shared by Pastor Matt, where students were encouraged to consider the importance of unity, belonging, and supporting one another. It was a powerful reminder that camp is not only about activities, but about building a community grounded in care and connection.

This camp experience has played a vital role in shaping the Year 7 cohort, helping students to form meaningful friendships and develop a deeper sense of belonging within the Oxley community. As it is written, How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! Psalm 133:1. This spirit of unity has been clearly evident throughout their journey so far.

As the term progresses, we look forward to seeing our Year 7 students continue to grow in confidence, character, and connection, building on the strong foundations established during the first term of Secondary School.

Year 7 Parent BBQ

The beginning of the school year has been a special time of welcome as we embraced new families into the Oxley community. Our Year 7 Parent BBQ in February 2026 provided a meaningful opportunity for families to gather, connect, and begin forming relationships that will support both students and parents throughout their secondary journey.

The evening was filled with warm conversations, shared experiences, and a growing sense of belonging. As students begin to form new friendships, it was equally encouraging to see parents building their own connections, strengthening the partnership between home and school in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

A strong sense of community was evident throughout the evening, made possible through the generous support of many. Parents who volunteered their time to prepare and serve food helped create a hospitable and inclusive atmosphere where everyone felt welcome and cared for.

The energy of the night was further enriched by the involvement of our senior student leaders. Under the guidance of Mr Trevor Whittle, they facilitated a range of engaging games that brought our Year 7 students together in a spirit of fun and collaboration. Laughter and teamwork were on full display as students connected beyond the classroom setting. These leaders also captured many special moments from the evening, preserving memories that reflect the joy of the occasion.

Events such as these are a reminder that community is not simply built, but nurtured through shared experiences, service, and genuine connection. As we reflect on the evening, we are reminded of the words from Scripture: Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfil the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2. This reflects the heart of our community, walking alongside one another with care, support, and unity.

We look forward to continuing to grow these relationships throughout the year, fostering a community where every family feels known, supported, and connected.
