What Did You Do At School?

Prep
Our Prep students have been busy and engaged as they continue their learning journey this term.
A highlight was our exciting Amari Careers Dress-Up Day, where students came dressed as a wide range of professions, including doctors, nurses, police officers, firefighters and astronauts. They loved sharing their ideas about what they might like to be in the future, sparking great conversations about the world around them.
In the classroom, we have been learning about the Easter story and the life of Jesus. Students explored how Jesus showed love and kindness to others, and learned about His death and resurrection. These discussions helped them understand the message of hope and new life that Easter brings.
We have also been building our writing skills by describing our favourite places. From beaches to parks and overseas countries.
It has been a joyful and productive time in Prep, and we are proud of the confidence and enthusiasm our students show each day.
Year 1
It was you who set all the boundaries of the earth; you made both summer and winter. Psalm 74:17
Our Year 1 students are becoming observational scientists this year! We are learning to use tools like thermometers to measure the weather and record careful notes about the world around us. To track how our environment transforms, we will revisit these observations at three other times this year and make additional observations to compare the changing seasons. We also applied our new understandings of using adjectives to write descriptions about the world around us. It is a joy to watch our budding scientists discover the patterns in God’s creation.
Year 2
This week, we have been exploring how to measure the length of objects using uniform units, such as Unifix cubes! We loved moving around the room, selecting different items to measure and challenging ourselves to compare how much longer or shorter one object was from another.
During reading, we became superstar inferring detectives, learning that authors leave clues for us to uncover. By noticing what we observe in a text (O), asking what we wonder (W), and using that to form an inference (I), we can respond thoughtfully using our OWI strategy.
Furthermore, we have had the pleasure of having our parents present for the first time in our strings lesson. Finally, we are allowed to take our instruments home and start practising. We were a bit nervous to have them watching, we know that their encouragement will help our confidence and musicianship grow!
Year 3
Integrated Studies: Building Dynamic Communities!
What an exciting term it has been in Year 3! Students have been exploring what makes a dynamic community and discovering how groups grow and change over time. Along the way, they learnt about inspiring Australian change-makers and how individuals can make a real difference. This sparked rich discussions about how even small actions can have a big impact!
Students also got creative, exploring fun ways to keep people active, healthy, and connected. They investigated real-world health messages and began thinking critically about how these influence the choices people make every day, including creating a food picture to encourage young children to eat more fruits and vegetables and to eat from all the colours of the rainbow. They also showed impressive persistence, one of our Habits of Mind, especially during hands-on challenges like cup stacking, where teamwork and determination were key.
The highlight of the term has been the lead-up to our exciting Community Connections Course. Working in small groups, students have been busy planning interactive activities that promote movement, teamwork, and connection.
It has truly been a joyful term of curiosity, creativity, and collaboration!
Year 4
Over the last few weeks, we have been learning all things measurement! We estimated the length of objects in the classroom and compared our estimates to the actual measurements. We also learned how to convert measurements accurately between centimetres, metres, and millimetres. We then transferred this knowledge to Area and Perimeter, and we were faced with the challenge of using our multiplication knowledge to design garden beds with an area of 24 centimetres squared. It has been so much fun to use our learning practically and to deepen our understanding of how we use these measurements in our day to day lives!
We also went on a camp to Mill Valley Ranch!
Year 5
This term has flown by in Year 5! We have thoroughly enjoyed the recent sporting events, including Swimming and Athletics, where we’ve been able to compete for our houses with great enthusiasm and team spirit.
In English, we have been developing our inferencing skills by using clues from texts alongside our own knowledge to recognise deeper meanings in both fiction and non-fiction.
In Mathematics, we have been learning about area and have had the opportunity to design our own gardens, with the challenge of measuring accurately. We have also continued our study of Mark’s Gospel, reflecting on the impact of Easter, particularly how Jesus’ death and resurrection shape our beliefs about hope, forgiveness, and new life.
Year 6
Wow! What an incredible adventure we had in Canberra!
Our journey began very early on a Monday morning. Although we were tired, excitement and anticipation fuelled our minds and bodies as we headed to the airport to catch our flight. We arrived in Canberra at 10.00am and were ready to embrace four days of learning and adventure.
During our time away, we visited many significant and memorable places, including Parliament House, Government House, the Australian War Memorial, the Royal Australian Mint, Questacon, and the Australian Institute of Sport, among others. We participated in a range of engaging activities that helped deepen our understanding of democracy and how our nation is governed.
A particularly meaningful moment of the camp was our visit to the Australian War Memorial. While there, we found a portrait of Pastor Hal Oxley honouring his service. It was a privilege to learn about his service and to commemorate the influential man he was to not only the College but also the country. Pastor Hal Oxley founded Life Ministry Centre and later, Life Christian Academy, which became Oxley Christian College.
This camp has been a wonderful way to begin our final year of Primary School. It was filled with moments that strengthened our friendships, challenged our thinking, and encouraged us to consider how we can each play a crucial role in our country.
