Update, Year 2 Open Strings Class
It is hard to believe that Term 1 has come to a conclusion! This term has been a time for new beginnings, auditions and preparation for what is to come in the future.
In the Junior School we have had Year 6 students stepping up to be the Performer of the Week in Chapel, with exceptional performances from Victor R (6D) and Sarah G (6D). The Junior Vocal Ensemble have assisted with worship, as has many of the Junior School classes. On the last day of this term, a number of Year 6 students presented a drama as part of the Junior School Easter Chapel. This service also included songs presented by the Junior Vocal Ensemble and the Seraphim Choir.
The Secondary School Production of Newsies rehearsals are now in full swing, with costume fittings, dance routines and the first full run of the show. The cast and production team are working extremely hard to put on a highly energetic and character driven show, so stay tuned for ticketing details.
At Junior School Chapel this week, this year’s Junior Production was announced as Chitty Chitty Bang Bang JR. This show, written by the writers of Mary Poppins, is based on the popular children’s book and 1960s movie. It features some great tunes and much adventure, and auditions for Year 6 will take place early in Term 2.
Many of our musicians have been leading worship in Secondary School Chapel, engaging the students in times of praise and reflection. They are to be congratulated on sharing their heart for worship and commitment to this important time each week.
William X (9.09) – clarinet, and Leah C (9.10) – flute, both presented outstanding solos at this year’s School at Work, showing skill, musicality and dexterity. At the recent evening School at Work, Camerata entertained a large crowd, displaying the high standard they have achieved very early in the year.
This term has concluded with SCSM string examinations, with some Secondary School students presenting a high standard in their final instrumental exam whilst at school. At the other end of the spectrum, our beginning Year 2 strings students presented an open lesson to their parents, sharing the progress that they have made this year in their musical journey.
Information will be coming out soon about Open Day and Secondary School Music Camp. Please read the details carefully about these two important events in the life of the College. There will be many music performances at Open Day, both in concerts, foyer recitals and outdoors, to be enjoyed with food and drink. Invite your friends and make the most of this community college event.
May you enjoy a blessed Easter and a refreshing holiday break.
Mr Jeffrey Clarke
Director of Performing Arts
On Wednesday 31 March, we invited our Year 2 parents to join us for the Open Strings class. The students had the opportunity to showcase their learnings in music theory, rhythm and their instruments, now that they can take them home. Parents learnt how to best support their child with their music practice at home, from caring for and storing the instrument, picking the right chair and assisting with the right posture, to how to hold a bow!
Mrs Bills, Mrs Radford, Mrs Brown, Mrs Shrivastav, Mrs McDonald and Mrs Drew are very proud of their students—and parents—and all that they have learnt this Term!
