Chinese Teacher's Day 中国教师节
Towards the end of Term 3, our students from Prep to Year 6 celebrated Chinese Teacher's Day (zhōng guó jiào shī jié 中国教师节), a special occasion in China held each year on September 10th. The day is dedicated to showing gratitude and respect for teachers, who play an essential role in guiding and inspiring their students.
At DPS, students learned about the origins of this celebration and how it is observed in China. Our learners discovered that on Teacher's Day, students in China often give handmade cards, flowers, or words of thanks to express their appreciation. This tradition highlights the value of respect, kindness and thankfulness in Chinese culture.
Each class participated in the card-making activity to mark the occasion. Prep to Year 2 students created colourful thank-you drawings with messages in both English and Chinese, while Year 3 to 6 learners wrote short notes using Chinese phrases, such as
Wishing you a happy Teacher's Day. 祝您教师节快乐!
Teacher, thank you for your hard work. 老师,您辛苦了!
This activity not only strengthened language learning but also allowed students to reflect on the importance of teachers in their own lives.
By celebrating Chinese Teacher's Day together, our school community gained a deeper appreciation of Chinese culture while also recognising the dedication and care of all educators who support our students' learning journey every day.
