Principal's  Report

Dear Parents and Friends of DPS,

Whilst it has been a short term, we have certainly packed a lot into Term 3. Students have continued their positive approach to learning, displaying the school values daily. We see this in their learning as well as in the way the students interact with their peers and staff. This is such a strong emphasis at DPS and is setting up the children with such great values for their   lives.

The Staff at DPS have continued their positive approach to learning also, developing their understanding of the new Victorian Teaching and Learning Model, applying new learning to their teaching practise daily. Our school leaders have dedicated their time to supportiing our staff through rich professional learning experiences.

We would like to thank parents for your school fee contributions which enable class teachers to utilise the best of resources as well as run all events at DPS. Without this support from our familes, events such as Science Week and Book Week simply wouldn't be possible. Parent Payments can still be made via Compass.

Thank you to the Parents and Friends Group for your support this Term. The Father's Day stall was a huge success, as was the Sushi Day. We are looking forward to some fun things in store in Term 4.

As attendance at school is so important, staff make this a priority to discuss student attendance patterns as a team. Regular attendance is crucial to educational achievement. Absence from school flows on to negative effects like leaving school early, poor academic achievement, and social isolation. Even short absences can make it more difficult for children to keep up with their learning. Non-attendance effects student outcomes and learning. The effects are cumulative. Each further absence makes things harder for the student. See table below:

Sadly we say farewell to Michaela George (Level 6 Teacher) at the end of this term. Michaela started at DPS at the beginning of the year and has brought a wealth of experience to the school. We know Michaela has had a huge impact on her students and has been such a positive member of staff. We wish her well in her future endeavours. Replacing Michaela is Georgia Redfern who has worked throughout the school this year in a range of diffferent roles.

As we move in to Term 4, please ensure your child has their hat at school in readiness for the warmer months.

On behalf of the staff at DPS, I wish you a happy holidays and look forward to your return on Monday 6 October.

Determination      Pride     Success
