English As an Additional Language

This term in EAL, students have been building their confidence with phonics by practising how sounds blend together to form words. Alongside this, we have been learning about past, present and future tense. Students have explored these tenses through short stories, classroom texts, and by talking about their own real-life experiences (for example, what they did on the weekend, what they are doing at school today, and what they will do tomorrow).
This has helped students to improve their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in ways that connect to their everyday lives. They are beginning to notice how small changes in words can show time (such as adding “-ed” for past tense), and they are becoming more confident in using these structures when they communicate.
It has been pleasing to see their progress as they practise these skills, and I look forward to seeing their continued growth next term.
