Instrumental Music

Recently we have had a few students discontinue learning their instrument. I would like to remind all music students that there will be times when we don’t feel totally engaged with music as with many things in life. As we head towards the end of the term, we are tired and busy with lots of end-of-term activities making us feel like we need to off load things. Sometimes it feels like music should be the thing to go as it takes extra time and effort. My advice for students is to think carefully before stopping, identify what the issue is and work with their music teacher to sort it out. The benefits of music education are long term and the decision to leave the program should not be taken lightly.

Liam, taking advantage of time before school to practice the piano in the music centre. Liam learns the piano outside school and learns the euphonium in the music program. Because he is a senior music student, his lessons are before school on Thursdays. He is in the senior concert band which rehearses on Tuesday after school from 3:25 to 5:00pm.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Because our music staff are all part time, most are not available to do parent/teacher conferences. If families would like to speak with a music teacher, arrange a time directly with the teacher. Also feel free to come and say hello after ensemble rehearsals.
