East Gippsland Track & Field

The Secondary Inter-School Track and Field event was a great day out for all schools from across our division. After being cancelled the week before due to wet conditions, the track dried up beautifully allowing the students the best opportunity to compete at a higher and safer level. Our students competed so well all day, pushing themselves to the limit with many of them placing in the top 3. Our largest number of competitors in a few years gained qualification to the Gippsland Region competition, which will be held in Newborough on Tuesday 8th September. 

I would like to express my gratitude and pride with this group of 50 students in how they conducted themselves throughout the day. We had students jumping in and helping run events when there were helper shortages, students looked after each other by staying connected with scheduling of events, many cheered for one another while each competed, the facilities were kept clean and respected to a high standard and generally speaking, they were a fun group of people to be around. The sports team appreciates you helping the biggest sporting event on the East Gippsland SSV calendar, thank you. 

State Senior Hockey Championships

For the third year in a row, the Senior Hockey Team competed at the State Championships in Footscray. This is an outstanding achievement the team should be proud of, and a tough 3 games on the day in which they won 2 games and lost 1 to narrowly miss out on playing in the grand final match. The level of skill at this tournament is electrifying. There is no time to let your guard down with each region represented by quality teams from across the state. The College congratulates the following players on another excellent state level tournament – Tom, Ayrton, Callum, Yianni, Peyton, Zak, Cameron, Sonny, Flynn, Maison and Hayden. 

East Gippsland Junior Basketball

A big day of basketball matches were played between BSC, Nagle, Orbost, Lakes Entrance and Mallacoota at the BARC on Wednesday 2nd September. It was a fun and competitive day that saw our teams win games in each of their age groups, but unfortunately not enough to qualify for region level progression. There was heartbreak in the intermediate boy’s game against Nagle, going down by 1 pt after siren with a free throw to seal our fate. We acknowledge the defeat was hard to deal with, but commend all of our teams with their professionalism and comradery with one another and the respect shown to the officiating umpires.
