NAIDOC Week

During the last week of Term 2, students from our Aboriginal Dance Group were honoured to be invited to perform at Branxton Public School's NAIDOC Week celebrations.

Representing their culture with pride, our students delivered a powerful and captivating performance. Their passion, dedication and respect for culture shone through in every dance, making them wonderful ambassadors for Francis Greenway High School.

A huge congratulations to our performers for sharing their culture and talents with the Branxton Public School community. We are incredibly proud of the way you represented our school and celebrated the rich histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. 

Aboriginal Dance

Our students participated in the Education Week Awards night for Aboriginal dance. A video was made of our dancers doing their dances and this was sent to our Primary schools for them to practice and learn. On the day of the awards, all of the primary schools came to Francis Greenway High School and practiced all day with them. They danced with pride and passion on the night and were highly praised by staff and community. A great night was had by all.

Girl's Group

Selected students will participate in the “Sistahood” an Aboriginal female mentoring group, which provides a safe and supportive space for young women to connect, build confidence, and engage in cultural learning. The program focuses on strengthening identity, wellbeing, and positive relationships through guided discussions and activities, such as art works, learning to weave, and learning fundamental lifelong skills.

This program will be run by the female Aboriginal staff members at Francis Greenway High School. As part of the program, we will be inviting Aboriginal community members to assist in mentoring and participating in the empowerment of these young women.
