It has been another incredibly positive and productive term at Francis Greenway High School (FGHS), with much to celebrate across our classrooms and wider school community. Our students and staff continue to demonstrate high expectations, pride and a strong sense of belonging. From quality teaching and learning to outstanding performances, academic achievement, leadership, sport and positive behaviour, there are many examples of our school continuing to grow and strengthen. I am particularly proud of the opportunities our students have had to learn, perform, lead and be recognised for their achievements, and I thank our families and community for their ongoing support.

Across FGHS, teachers are continuing to strengthen explicit teaching practices to support every student to succeed. Lessons clearly identify what students are learning and what success looks like, with regular Daily Review and a structured approach of “I Do, We Do, You Do” to build knowledge, skills and independence. Teachers also regularly check for understanding and provide feedback, helping students build confidence, engagement and progress in their learning.

Education Week provided a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the achievements and contributions of students, staff and community members. We were incredibly proud to recognise Alison and Conner for Excellence and Commitment to Academic Achievement; Ms Rose for Outstanding Leadership in Inclusive Education and Excellence in Supporting Students, Staff and School Learning Support Officers; and Mrs Waller for Exceptional Leadership in Explicit Teaching in Mathematics and Languages.

Our non teaching staff recipients, Ms Winter and Ms Tuxford, were recognised for their exceptional commitment to supporting students, inclusive learning, careers and successful post school pathways. We also celebrated Ms Osbourne and Ms West from Youth Off The Streets for their outstanding service and support of our students and school community. Finally, our Pasifika Program received a School Achievement Award for excellence in promoting Pacific cultures and inspiring cultural pride, inclusion and belonging. Congratulations to all our award recipients. Their achievements reflect the commitment, care and high expectations we value at FGHS.

This term, we proudly hosted LUMINATE, our CAPA and TAS Showcase, celebrating the creativity, talent and achievements of students across Years 7 to 11. The event provided a fantastic opportunity for families, friends and staff to experience the incredible work taking place across our school. From outstanding Music, Drama and Dance performances to impressive displays of Visual Arts, Photography and TAS projects, our students showcased their skills, confidence and creativity with pride. Year 10 Food Technology students also prepared refreshments for our guests. Congratulations to every student who performed, exhibited or contributed, and thank you to our dedicated CAPA and TAS staff for the significant work behind the scenes in making LUMINATE such a success.

Our PBL Presentation Assembly recognised students who consistently demonstrate our school values of Respect, Responsibility, Commitment and Cooperation, while also marking an exciting new chapter in student leadership. A highlight was the official induction of our Student Voice Team, providing students with a genuine voice in the direction of our school.

Representing Year 7 are Mya and Zane; Year 8 are Tyson, Olivia, Olivia, Anaya and Shantel; Year 9 are Heath, Brian, Clarkson, Sarah, Alana, Olivia, Beau, Skylah and Jake; Year 10 are Melissa, Joshua, Byron and Bella; Year 11 are Maddy, Emily, Madison, Lachlan, Joshua, Haidee, Dakota, Tiarney, Dakota and Jacinta; and Year 12 are Pepper, Kayla and Sabilla. The team will meet regularly to raise important issues, share ideas and work with staff to support positive change. I congratulate all members on their induction and look forward to seeing their ideas and leadership contribute to the future of the school.

The assembly also celebrated the many students who consistently demonstrate our PBL expectations. Numerous students across Years 7 to 12 received individual awards for demonstrating Respect, Responsibility, Commitment and Cooperation. Special congratulations go to Matilda (Year 7), Alyssa (Year 8), Sarah (Year 9), Melissa (Year 10), Lily (Year 11) and Connor (Year 12), who achieved the highest number of positive points in their respective year groups. We also congratulate Brax, recipient of the Junior Deadly Award, and Chelsea Lee, recipient of the Senior Deadly Award. Kayla received the Beresfield Bowling Club PBL Champion Award for achieving the highest number of positive points across the entire school. Congratulations to all students recognised for their positive contribution to FGHS.

It has also been a fantastic term for sport, with some outstanding results. Our Under 14 Rugby League team progressed to the quarter finals of the Buckley Shield, while our Basketball team celebrated an outstanding Zone Championship win. Our boys’ and girls’ Netball teams also performed extremely well, demonstrating skill, teamwork and determination. Most importantly, our students represented FGHS with pride and sportsmanship. Congratulations to everyone involved, and thank you to the staff who gave their time to coach, organise and support our teams.

As we continue to strengthen high expectations, I would also like to reinforce the importance of wearing the FGHS uniform. Our uniform promotes pride, identity and belonging while also supporting student safety by allowing our students to be easily identified at school and in the wider community. We ask families to support us by ensuring students arrive each day in full school uniform, including appropriate footwear. Thank you to our parents and carers for helping our students represent FGHS with pride.

As we move through the remainder of the term, I encourage our students to continue setting high expectations for themselves, taking pride in their learning and making the most of the many opportunities available to them. Thank you to our staff for their dedication and to our families and community for your continued support. Together, we are building a school where every student is known, supported, challenged and encouraged to achieve their best.
