Year 1 News

It’s hard to believe we are already halfway through the year. We have had a wonderful first semester of Year 1, and have not only continued to build our independence, but develop our skills as readers, writers, mathematicians, thinkers, communicators, collaborators, self-managers and researchers.

It was definitely another busy but exciting week in Year 1. Our week began with Italian Day! We started the day with a parade, dancing around the hall to Italian music dressed as Nonnas, chefs, pizzas, meatballs, Mario and Luigi, La Befana, pasta, and soccer players. After this we watched The Great Armando’s magic show. We had a ball and enjoyed all of his amazing tricks. We decorated Venetian masks for Carnevale, made our own pizza placements and then gathered together for a delicious Italian lunch of Pizza, Arancini and Cannoli! Well done to 1AM and 1CW for having the most Italian lunches in the school (alongside FLW!) It was a wonderful day of celebration. A big thank you to Frank’s Mum Kim, for our delicious Italian-themed cake!

As people of faith, we have been deepening our understanding of the Sacrament of Eucharist through Scripture stories, prayer, music, videos and symbols. We used the  Colour-Symbol-Image thinking routine to sort out our thinking. As thinkers, we chose a colour, symbol and image that represented our understanding of the  Eucharist and explained the connections. Some of us chose red to represent the Blood of Christ or gold to represent the sacred vessels used during Mass, and drew the host or chalice as important symbols. We then shared our understanding of the significance of Eucharist in the Catholic tradition.
