Year 3 News

Welcome to Week 10! We have had an eventful and fun-filled week in Year 3. Two highlights this week were Italian Day and Father Tien’s visit.

This week we got to play on our brand new playground. On Monday morning Mrs Watson explained the different parts of the playground and went through all the rules to ensure that we all play in a safe and respectful way. She then gave us about 10 minutes to try out the playground for the first time. It was a nice way to start our school week.

Italian Day was a joyous celebration of Italian culture. We had a fun dress up parade where we showcased lots of imaginative and home made costume creations including dressing up as bowls of pasta, pasta chefs, nonnas, gondoliers, Marios, Ferrari race car drivers, Italian soccer players etc. We played fun games such as Dress the Waiter and Bocce and enjoyed watching an Italian magic show. It was a wonderful day. A huge thank you to Signora Rosa for organising this event.

On Thursday Father Tien visited 3DG. He explained the different parts of the Mass to us and he patiently answered our questions about mass and about our religion. We also sang some hymns together.  It was a wonderful opportunity for learning, reflection, and connection with our faith community.

As writers, we have used the writing process to complete our factual recounts. This process included planning, drafting, revising, editing and publishing our work. Through our writing, we explored the history of the Stolen Generations and reflected on this significant and tragic event. It was meaningful to recount these experiences through the perspective of an Aboriginal child, helping us to develop a deeper understanding of Australia's past.

As mathematicians, we used the number line strategy to solve subtraction problems involving 3 digit numbers. This time we needed to remember to begin from the right side of the empty number line and count backwards first by hundreds, then by tens and then by ones using jumps to arrive at our answer.

As creative thinkers, we created artworks that represented the identity, beliefs and perspectives of an Australian person connected to a significant event in Australia's history. We also explored and included the Aboriginal perspective, helping us to understand how different groups experienced and viewed the same historical event.
