Alumni program

Viewbank College has held two alumni panels over the past week. The guest speakers were former students of the college who returned to share their experiences, achievements, and career journeys with current students.

These alumni panels give current students the opportunity to learn from former students who have been in a similar position. They can hear about different career pathways, challenges they faced, and the experiences that helped them achieve success.

Performing arts, sport and study skills: Viewbank alumni return to share their knowledge

Bringing back alumni to share their experience with current students is a core part of the alumni program which Viewbank College began building this year in partnership with the not-for-profit organisation Our school.

This past week we’ve had two groups of alumni return to the school for a special alumni panel on performing arts and life after school, as well as another on exam prep ahead of the VCE exams.

A third group of alumni will be returning to the school on Thursday, 17 September, to talk about careers in sport as part of Health and PE Week.

Alumni panel on Performing Arts and Life after School

The ‘Performing Arts and Life after school’ panel included former Viewbank College drama captain Broden Kelly, who is part of the iconic comedy group Aunty Donna and who can currently be seen in the hit series ‘Colin from Accounts’ as the nasty boss Jared.

His fellow alumni panel members included Atlanta Coogan who has built a career as a musician across different genres; Lakshmi Ganapathy who combines work as a journalist with work in the performing arts, and Demetrius Kiriakidis who continues to be actively involved in amateur productions and music, while working in the construction industry. The youngest member of the panel, Kieran Holmes, who graduated from Viewbank College last year, has launched a project to form a big band, with about half of its members being former Viewbank College musicians.

VCE study skills alumni panel

Seven alumni returned to Viewbank College to talk about study skills ahead of the VCE exams. The former students shared which revision strategies and exam prep methods were most helpful for them. The Class of 2025 were represented by Ben Wilson, Tara Russo and Vista Ghalehbeigi, while the Class of 2024 were represented by Bailey Lawton, Hannah Haynes, Kristian Robinson and Riley Snowdon. Careers in Sport Alumni program activities for the term will wrap up on Thursday, 17 September, with a panel on careers in sport. Panel members will include North Melbourne AFL player Aiden Corr; part-time sport broadcaster Darren Boyd; Lauren Castles, who manages member experience at the Melbourne Cricket Club and Christian Buckley, who has held a variety of sports-related roles, including positions with Collingwood Football Club.
