Turns out Round 16 was the easiest round of the season with 55 people getting 7/7 and a further 37 getting 6/7. Of those that got 7/7, Paula Rafferty (who won last week) was closest to the margin (17 points) in Port Adelaide’s comfortable win over Carlton and as such wins another $100. Congratulations Paula.
With regards to the overall leaderboard, we have five people on 98 with a further three people on 97.
The bye rounds are finally over and Round 17, which starts Thursday night, will comprise nine games with an interesting side note that the top nine sides are playing the bottom nine sides.
North Melbourne v Western Bulldogs – 16th v 7th
The last time North Melbourne beat the Western Bulldogs was 2019. It’s difficult to see that trend changing;
Carlton v Collingwood – 11th v 1st
Traditional rivals but it would seem the best Carlton fans can hope for is that their side is competitive;
West Coast Eagles v GWS – 18th v 9th
The Eagles were surprisingly competitive against Collingwood and have won four of the last five clashes versus GWS at Optus Stadium. I still think it would be a brave person to pick the Eagles;
Essendon v Gold Coast – 13th v 8th
Essendon would be hoping to get a few players back after their bye making them more competitive than they have been of late. Last time these teams met at Marvel Stadium, Gold Coast won by a point;
Geelong v Richmond – 4th v 17th
No-one is picking Richmond;
Brisbane v Port Adelaide – 2nd v 10th
Port hasn’t beaten Brisbane at the Gabba since 2017, but if Port want to make finals they can’t afford to lose;
St Kilda v Hawthorn - 15th v 5th
Last week St Kilda pushed Fremantle all the way, while Hawthorn demolished North Melbourne. Interestingly, St Kilda has won four of the last five clashes between these sides at Marvel;
Sydney v Fremantle - 12th v 6th
Since 2018, Fremantle has won the only two clashes between these sides at the SCG. Despite Fremantle winning six in a row, this is probably the toughest game of the round to pick with any confidence; and
Adelaide v Melbourne - 3rd v 14th
Melbourne has a very good record against Adelaide having won four of the last five clashes between these sides at the Adelaide Oval but that said I imagine most people will be picking Adelaide.
