Mazenod v AIC
Mazenod hosted Australian Islamic College in the final game of the group stage of the SSWA Pennants Competition, looking to finish the season with a win after a defeat in the last match to Southern River College. We started the game strong, dominating in possession and creating many chances up front, but some gallant defending from AIC was able to keep the Mazenod forwards out. Hayden P finally opened the scoring and soon after Cooper M scored Mazenod's second goal after a goal mouth scramble. Before the half, AIC were able to get a quick goal on a counter attack to make the game interesting at half time. In the second half, Mazenod dominated, scoring 2 more goals (Hayden P and Javon M) to put the game out of reach for AIC.
It was a good win for the junior team with some fantastic team football. The team will now await the results of the other games to see if they have progressed through to the next stage of the competition next term.

Mazenod’s First XVIII Fall Just Short in Semi Final
Mazenod College’s First XVIII put up a spirited fight in their semi-final against Emmanuel College, ultimately falling short in a closely contested match. The boys played tough, hard-footy all day, staying in the contest until the final siren.
Despite the result, it was a strong end to a successful season. Congratulations to the team and coaches for their dedication and pride throughout the 2025 campaign.

Year 11 PES Students Helping at Primary School Lightning Carnival
On Thursday June 26 students from Mr Grabski and Mr Walczak’s Year 11 PE Studies General classes were given the opportunity to be the game officials for soccer and football at the primary schools lighting carnival held at Maida Vale Reserve. With games on 10 soccer fields and 2 football fields each round of the carnival, it was non-stop action from the time the sirens sounded for the start of round one.
The students involved represented themselves and the College extremely well and were outstanding in their performance as soccer referees and football umpires. They interacted well with the players and team coaches, whilst maintaining control of all their matches thanks to some preparation on the rules and expectations leading up to the carnival. They should be very proud.
Below is the feedback from Teresa Curulli (Physical Education Teacher at Mary’s Mount Primary) that was sent to College Principal Simon Harvey at the end of the day. I think it sums up the Mazenod boy’s contributions perfectly.
“They were fantastic – professional, reliable, and great with the students. We really appreciate the support, and it made a big difference to the smooth running of the day”.

Intermediate Soccer
Monday 30 June, the Intermediate Soccer team hosted Al Ameen College in the final game of the SSWA Shield Competition Pennants group stage. Mazenod needed to win the game to keep their qualification chances to get through to the knockout phase alive. The game started at a frenetic pace with Mazenod dominating possession but unable to score the goal due to some good defending. Finally, we broke through with Lucas R netting the first for Mazenod.
Mazenod went into the half time break 3-1 up, adding another 3 goals in the second half. A highlight was Max M's long distance strike over the keeper. The game finished 6 -1 in a well deserved win. The team now awaits the results of the other games to see if they have qualified for the next stage of the competition.
