Year 9 ITALIAN EXCURSION- “Voci’ D’Italia- Voices of Italy”
On Friday 20 June, the Year 9 Italian students enjoyed a fun and immersive language excursion to ‘The Vault’ Italian restaurant, where they were also joined by the Year 9 students from St Brigid’s College.
A highlight of the day was their interview with Marco, the restaurant’s pastry chef, who migrated to Australia over 20 years ago. Conducted entirely in Italian, the conversation offered students a rare and enriching opportunity to practise their language skills in a real-world context while gaining insight into Marco’s personal journey, his travels while living in Italy and his Italian culinary traditions.
Adding a twist to the day, Father Josh from Iona College in Brisbane happened to be dining at the same venue and joined our gathering , offering a warm and unexpected connection to another Mazenod school community. Father Josh was able to use his own Italian language skills as he chatted to the students whilst they enjoyed their lunch. The experience blended language, culture, and authentic engagement, whilst complementing their classroom learning by bringing the Italian language and culture to life in a meaningful, real-world setting.
