Music Camp 2025

On Friday 9th May, 71 excited music students enrolled in our MGC ensembles travelled to Urban Camp in Parkville for our 2025 Music Camp!

Highlights of the weekend included Friday night’s Music Trivia, organised by our Music Captains, our walk to Lygon Street on Saturday for well deserved Yo Chi and our Talent Quest Saturday night.

Music Camp concluded with a Mother’s Day concert on Sunday for family and friends to show off all our hard work.

Choir sang “Songbird”, A’capella choir performed “Company” and a preview of “But Beautiful”, Junior Rock Band performed “Not” by Big Thief, Mid Rock Band performed “25 or 6 to 4” by Chicago, joined by Orchestra and Senior Rock Band performed “Reeling in the Years” by Steely Dan. Orchestra performed a mash up of pieces based on Pachelbel’s Canon and concluded with the classic Peter Gunn Theme.

A huge thank you to our parent volunteers who helped with tram, rehearsals and/or  slept over: Katie Falkiner, Anna Taylor, Sarah Griffiths, Ruth Grigg, Emily Bowden and Phil Lewis- we couldn’t have done it without you!

A big shout out to our crew who helped with packing the equipment, our music captains for all their help, Izzy Hall for sharing her 17th Birthday with us, our 4 Year 12s; Audrey Ahmed, Anja Paine, Emily Pilepich and Imogen Scott-Young,  all students who attended, (especially those juggling other commitments such as sport, State School Spectacular rehearsals and the Gracie Abrams concert) and to all parents for their support.

Lastly, thank you to our Instrumental Music teachers for their leadership and inspiration:

Ellyce Calder (Choir)

Susan De Jong (A ‘Capella Choir)

Andy Clarke (Junior, Mid and Senior Rock Bands)

Tony Hicks (Jazz Orchestra)

We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming evening Soirees and Showcases in June and our Ensemble Concert in August.

This month we had our annual MGC Music Camp! On Friday afternoon, all MGC music ensemble students caught the tram to Urban Camp in Parkville for a weekend of practicing. This is my fifth Music Camp, and every year it is a highlight - we get to play music all day long and make great connections with our ensemble members, and, it ends in a performance for all parents to see our progress. As a VCE music student, it is a great opportunity to focus on music for a whole weekend and really get to know my instrument. And, in my younger years, going to Music Camp helped me make some of my closest friends. Overall, it was a great weekend and we already can’t wait for the next one!
