Pride in Progress, Purpose in Planning

As we reach the midpoint of Term 2, I want to take a moment to recognise and celebrate the efforts, achievements and contributions of every member of our Melbourne Girls’ College community.
The first half of this term has been filled with energy, pride and connection. Our Open Night was once again an overwhelming success, welcoming hundreds of prospective families into our college. The evening was a powerful reminder of the impact we make every day and the strength of our learning community.
Learn to Row is about to begin for our Year 8 students, continuing our proud tradition of introducing students to this iconic part of MGC life. We also came together recently to celebrate the Rowing Presentation Night, a fantastic event that honoured the dedication, resilience and achievements of our rowers and their families. Thank you to all who support this program.
A heartfelt thank you to our MGC Parents’ Association for hosting two beautiful events this term, our annual Mother’s Day Breakfast and a Thank You Morning Tea for staff. These moments of connection and appreciation mean so much and truly reflect the warmth and gratitude within our school community.
Our recent Dance Night was another show stopping event. Congratulations to all the students, staff and coaches involved for their talent, hard work and commitment. Your passion for performance and creative expression continues to inspire us all.
We also celebrate the continued success of our Aerobics Team, who are once again preparing to compete at Nationals. The dedication, discipline and spirit of this team are nothing short of remarkable. Meanwhile, our AAFC Cadets continue to challenge themselves and grow through the diverse and unique opportunities they undertake each week.
This week, we mark National Reconciliation Week, a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation. At MGC, we reaffirm our commitment to truth telling, to strengthening our understanding of First Nations perspectives, and to fostering a culture of respect, inclusion and action.
This term also marked the conclusion of our School Review, an important opportunity to reflect on and celebrate the achievements of the college over the past four years. There was such a strong sense of pride in leading our community through this process. The panel recognised several strengths, including our unique learning environment, where facilities and programs cater exceptionally well for the diversity of our students. They also acknowledged our culture of inclusion and support, where every student can find their place, and the breadth of co and extra-curricular opportunities that allow our students to pursue their passions and aspirations. This feedback affirms the work of our dedicated staff and the vibrant, connected community we continue to build together.
As we move forward, our attention now turns to the implementation of our new 2025–2029 Strategic Plan. This next phase of improvement work is both exciting and ambitious. As part of this work, we have also commenced a review of our current Leadership Structure to ensure we have the right resources, roles and supports in place to effectively lead and sustain the next level of growth for the college.
There is so much to be proud of at Melbourne Girls’ College. These programs and events don’t happen by chance. They are the result of professional planning, and the collective effort of our staff, students, families and community partners.
Thank you for your ongoing commitment and contribution to college life.
