2025 “International Chinese Language Day” Celebrations and CLTAV Chinese Reading Competition for Non-Chinese Background students in Years 8 and 9 

On 24 April, 2025, to celebrate the 16th United Nations "International Chinese Language Day," the Chinese Consulate-General in Melbourne, in partnership with the Chinese Language Teachers’ Association of Victoria (CLTAV), hosted a special event themed "Chinese: A Gift Across Time and Space" at Camberwell Grammar School.

 

The event was graced by the presence of Consul-General Mr. Fang Xinwen and his wife Ms. Zeng Hui, Counsellor Ms. Ding Li, Camberwell Grammar School Principal Mr. Ben Jeacocke, Acting Deputy Secretary of the Victorian Department of Education Mr. Chris Thompson, CLTAV President Mr. Xu Jixing, former President of the Legislative Council of Victoria Mr. Bruce Atkinson, State Member of Parliament for Kew Ms. Jess Wilson MP, and Melbourne City Councillor Ms. Gladys Liu. Over 300 student representatives from 23 schools across Victoria participated.

 

Students enthusiastically engaged in a range of vibrant cultural workshops, including traditional Chinese calligraphy, painting, tea ceremonies, dragon dancing, paper-cutting, and horticulture, enjoying a rich and hands-on experience of Chinese culture.

 

In addition, more than 80 students took part in the Chinese Reading Competition for Non-Chinese Background students in Years 8 and 9, with 12 students recognised for their outstanding performances.

A special congratulations to Audrey Taylor and Ariya Johnston for their incredible achievements! Audrey was awarded First Prize in the Year 8 Reading category, and Ariya received the medallion for the Year 9 Reading category. Well done, girlsyou have made MGC proud!
