Year 9 & 10 Sub-School News

Assistant Principal's Report
Term 2 is well underway and our Year 9 and 10 students have been involved in a number of exciting activities and events.
Year 10 started the term with 3 days on Phillip Island, getting to know each other better and challenging themselves to try new things. There will be other articles in this newsletter about this event but all the students seemed to have a great time and participated in all the opportunities this camp gave them.
The start of this term was also an exciting time for our Year 9 and 10 Outdoor Education classes with camps to Mt Stirling (Year 10) and the Great Ocean Road walk (Year 9). The students handled the challenges, including weather related ones, with a positive attitude and learnt a lot from their experiences.
Year 9 students have been unpacking their Morrisby results and engaging in discussions with Careers Advisors about the meaning of their results and possible future pathways. Year 10 students have been preparing cover letters and resumes in the lead up to some of them taking part in mock job interviews with members of our local Rotary club. All these programs help students get a sense of what they enjoy and what they are good at as we begin conversations about 2026 subject selections.

Year 9
It’s always a busy start to Term 2 for Year 9 as they continue with their classes and extra curricular activities. A key event of the term has been the Morrisby testing and students are eager to continue their career advisory process when their allocated interviews come early next term. Many students have enjoyed their class excursions and camps held offside which is such an exciting opportunity that our students are lucky enough to have access to.
As we head to the back end of Term 2, semester 1 electives are beginning to wind up and new electives are going to be on offer. Subject changes end next Friday 30 May which is a key date for all students to be aware of.
Finally, assessment time is almost once again upon us. Students are reminded to seek help from their teachers/Year level leaders if they need additional support and to keep an organised study routine at home.

Year 10
Term 2 began on a high note for Year 10 with our Phillip Island Camp in Week 1. It was a wonderful experience for all involved. The students completed a wide range of activities from giant swings to canoeing and got to participate in a memorable, if slightly winding, night walk. Friendships were solidified, new dances were created and lots of fun was had.
After camp the students got straight into classes in Week 2. Our focus in home group and wellbeing classes has been on preparing students for the workforce. Students have completed CV’s with cover letters and resumes, with a select group being chosen to participate in mock job interviews being run by some wonderful volunteers from Rotary.
As we approach the end of Semester 1, students can reflect on all that they have achieved in their first set of subjects for the year. Exams will be in Week 9. These will be the first formal exams for many of the cohort. Good luck to all involved!
As we head into Semester 2, some big choices await. Students will need to choose whether they want to complete mainstream VCE or whether they intend to complete VCEVM. In both cases there will be big decisions to be made over what subjects they want to choose for the final stage of their high school journey.
Well done to the cohort for a brilliant start to the year. We look forward to whatever the next semester brings.
