Year 11 Bstreetsmart Excursion

On August 13, the Year 11 cohort went to Afterpay Arena for the 'bstreetsmart' excursion, in Sydney Olympic Park. The purpose of bstreetsmart is to reduce fatality and injury rates among young people aged 15–30 by promoting safe, responsible behavior as drivers, riders, and passengers. Created by Westmead Hospital's Trauma Service, it uses confronting crash simulations and real-life survivor stories to educate students on the consequences of risky driving choices. This was especially pivotal for us boys, since we fall into the demographic that has the most risk of car crashes, due to most boys just getting our P's, putting us in greater risk due to reckless driving. The highlight of the day was definitely the interactive car crash simulation at the start of the day where they simulated what would happen in a real-life car crash, with all the emergency services vehicles actually driving inside the stadium, to theoretically perform what they would actually do in a real crash. That was the most eye-opening experience. Afterwards, a bunch of guest presenters spoke about the statistics and facts about car crashes for young Australians, and we also had three people who experienced car crashes to tell us their stories. Overall it was a really informative and engaging day on the most part!

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a commonly diagnosed neurodevelopmental condition that affects how children regulate attention, impulses and activity levels. While many children can appear restless, distracted or forgetful at times, ADHD involves ongoing patterns that may impact learning, behaviour, organisation and relationships. These challenges can sometimes lead to frustration at home and school, particularly when a child is trying hard but struggling to meet expectations.

For families, understanding ADHD means recognising that these behaviours are not simply a matter of effort or discipline. ADHD is influenced by a combination of neurological, biological and environmental factors that affect how a child’s brain processes information and manages self-control. With the right support, structure and strategies, children with ADHD can develop the skills they need to succeed and thrive.

This edition of SchoolTV explores how families can better understand ADHD and support children to build confidence, strengthen emotional regulation and navigate everyday challenges more successfully.

We know that school is the best place to learn. By attending school every day your child will get the most out of their learning and improve their career and life options.

When your child is absent it is important you let the school know, including the reason why, on the day or the day before. This helps make sure we know where our students are and offer support for you and your family if needed.

If you are having trouble getting your child to school every day or on time, please talk to our school staff so we can work together, because every day counts. 

Missing a day here or there may not seem like much, but absences add up and can negatively impact your child’s learning and wellbeing. When your child misses one day per fortnight, that's 4 weeks of missed learning in one year. Over an entire school journey this adds up to 1 year of lost learning.
