Year 8 and 11

We are pleased to report a strong start to Term 3 at Epping Boys High School. Our students have continued to demonstrate and value for our core values, maintaining the high standards of engagement and responsibility expected within our school community. This positive environment supports the growth and success of all our boys.

Year 8- Important Elective Choices and Assessments

Term 3 is a crucial period for our students as assessments and results are informative for our students as they make decisions about their elective subjects for the coming years. We remind all Year 8 boys that their elective selections should now be finalised, with paper copies submitted to their Year Advisers. The timetable team will begin developing next year’s schedule to accommodate these choices. We wish all Year 8 boys the best of luck with their subject selections.

Additionally, term assessments play an important role this year by contributing to subject marks and rankings that will inform streaming decisions for Year 9. Parents are reminded that the familiar class structures of Years 7 and 8 will change next year. Classes in Year 9 will no longer be linked to a home rooms or roll call but will instead be organised based on the courses selected or the academic levels achieved in streamed subjects.

Year 11- Preparing for their Final Assessments and Schooling Year at Epping

For Year 11 students, this is a critical time as they complete their preliminary courses in preparation for Year 12. Final assessments for Year 11 will be conducted in a block from the middle of Week 8 through to the end of Week 10. The boys will not be attending ‘normal lessons’ during this time. (Week 8: Wednesday, 9/10 – Friday, 25/10 Week 10. Boys are reminded that any outstanding work or N-award warnings must be resolved before the start of the assessment period.

This busy time requires effective time management to balance study and revision across all subjects. Having a well prepared ‘study schedule’ is critical to ensure a strong foundation for success in Year 12. We encourage all Year 11 boys to stay focused and organised during this important stage of their schooling.

Holiday Story- Knox, Orion and Scott

As our adventure for the holidays, we all went to Clontarf beach for what we were hoping would be some good fishing. Little did we know this adventure was going to be very fun.

We all met at Epping station at 6am and we made our way to Crows Nest via the metro, then we hopped on the 144 bus to the beach. 

After a few odd looks because we were carrying all of our fishing gear and rods on the bus, we made it to the beach. It was packed but that didn't stop us.

We set up our position on the wharf, put the bait on our rods and casted our lines, waiting to get the anticipated bites. 

It didn't take long for Scott to catch a trevally but, unfortunately after measuring it, it was not legal size so he threw it back. 

The day didn't end there as Orion caught a decent sized leather jacket, but he was catching and releasing. 

Then when we were about to pack up, Knox yelled ‘on’, and as he reeled the line in, we saw the weird shaped body. It was a flathead but after measuring it, it wasn’t legal size so we released it back into the ocean. 

After 8 hours, we decided to pack up and go home leaving us to say: what a day!

Hugo W- Generational Leadership Program 

We proudly recognise one of our Year 11 Prefects, Hugo W, for his success as a graduate of the Generational Leadership Program this year. Through the program's workshops of coaching sessions. Hugo strengthen his leadership mindset, refined clear personal goals, and built resilience while creating meaningful change through his 'Still Here' initiative.

Throughout the program, Hugo demonstrated maturity, curiosity, and a strong commitment to contributing positively to his community. His thoughtful engagement with his mentors and peers- paired with his ability to listen deeply and approach challenges creatively- highlighted his growing leadership capability beyond his academic studies. Most notably, Hugo identified a genuine community need and worked towards a purposeful solution, reflecting the program's emphasis on legacy and social impact. His efforts have already made a positive difference within the Epping Boys community, and we loos forward to seeing how he continues to apply his learning in the years ahead.
