Indigenous Live Theatre Excursion
On Wednesday the 4th of September, a number of Indigenous students from Craigieburn Secondary College attended a live performance of Horizon by the renowned Bangarra Dance Theatre.
Koorie students were impressed by the grandeur of the Arts Centre, and they were particularly proud of a magnificent exhibition of Aboriginal art that was on display.
On entering the Playhouse, our cohort was allocated front row seats - “the best in the house” according to the usher!! Such VIP treatment was due to their participation in the Wilay Program. Sponsored by media personality Stan Grant, the Wilay Program facilitates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students accessing Bangarra’s inspirational works - performances that expertly blend traditional and contemporary dance cultures.
From those seats, and in the company of other Indigenous youth from across the country, the students were enthralled by the immersive performance of Horizon.
The Indigenous Live Theatre Excursion was a highly memorable and enriching experience for all involved; most especially because of the ways the CSC students shared their rich knowledge and deep curiosity about Indigenous cultures, demonstrating the College values of Belonging, Growth, Understanding and Respect throughout the day.
